Actually Alan Ball, who brought TRue Blood to TV, is a gay man who has done TV shows that never catered to teen white girls. His shows (like Six Feet Under) have always been aimed at adults; particularly sophistacted, educated, upper middle class types (which one can argue is the demographic that most white gays fit within). The True Blood books, which the show is loosely based upon, have also been around before the Twilight series came around. So they weren't influenced by that recent trend.
Loki, I wasnt responding to your point. I was responding to BC regarding TB catering to teen girls. Nothing else
But you do have to wonder why most of these supernatural shows never have strong black characters or fuck that no non white characters. Once and awhile you'll get one of us as a witch but its usually one who is in service to a white vampire. But its like the Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings argument, we don't exist in the future nor in a distant fantasy land. Elvs and dwarves don't have dark skin tone lol
a negro free future fuck yeah, i'll buy that! :smt043 they could have had some blacks in LoTR tho that was a blatant cop-out you never see anything about Africa tho in the mainstream around that period for some odd reason... sure you get the usual Egypt, Saladin and whatever, but you really never see anything about the south. It's like africa didn't exist. funny how they can find information on the oldest of civilizations in Europe and North Africa, but can't find a DAMN thing about the ivory coast, south africa, Nigeria etc. Unless i'm just ignorant and haven't read the same books everyone has...possible
I recently found out that Jamaicans come from a warrior race in Africa called the Ashanti, reading up on them makes me want to write an epic based on them. There is a lot of rich history in Africa that is completely overlooked.
something is seriously wrong with this picture our history doesn't just magically begin at slavery..they need to stop playing i want to see a movie about African empires and fellowships and mythical creatures *holds breath*
To his credit George Lucas tried to racially diversify the worlds of Star Wars, in the prequel movies. But as for the Author of The Lord Of The Rings, He had very racist ideas from the get go, so if Black people were in the story they most assuredly wouldn't be heroes. As a Matter of fact in his expanded notes he (the Author) explaines that in the world he created, all of the other (non-white) humans are in league with the evil Villain, and only the fair skinned "men of the west" are righteous and good.
And don't forget Eggs was a satyr in thrall to a Maenad. That is, a subhuman slave to a witch. By definition satyrs are human only in their uncontrollable lust. Lucky they didn't have him with a goat's head and horse's ass.
I forgot about the lone black jedi lol Look at the Jedi council. It was suppose to represent the entire galaxy yet it was chuck full of white male humans lol I forgot Tolken was a piece of shit. The beasts were all from mud and mud colored. Who does that remind you of? lol Yet not a single human wasn't fair skinned nor were the hobits the elvs or the dwarvs. Gotta love diversity lol
TDK, where's your racist rant on how Christopher Nolan and the entire Dark Knight Rises production team is racist because they cast Morgan Freeman as the magical negro that helps the super suave and sexy Bruce Wayne be the hero?
Um ok. Morgan Freeman played the magical negro that helps the super sauve and sexy Bruce Wayne be a hero. Happy?
So if its enjoyable and critically acclaimed media that everyone loves, who CARES? Not everyone who watches The Lord of the Rings or Batman is going to subliminally pick up on the black man who is a sidekick or what's evil...
Like Michael Clarke Duncan in The Green Mile. Will Smith in The Legend of Bagger Vance, ect., ect. ect.
