Real fucking talk. That shit would be incredible if it took place in some place like Mt. Vernon or Yonkers some place not as obvious as the Bronx or Brooklyn or Queens. Now that would so crazy. You should pitch that son

LOL...relax, take a deep breath. :p Will's music was more about fun & lightheartedness than serious rap IMO. I do like his stuff, but rap doesn't necessarily come to mind when think of his music.

I still think his acting is where he's stronger; he's also better at drama than he is comedy IMO.

You gotta consider the time he was trying to making music. From the Public Enemy and LL Cool J era all the way up to Biggie Pac and Nas. Dude is not even in the same conversation. You're just being polite and I ain't afraid to tell that muscle head his idol can't rap any better than Simon Cowell lol:cool:

No, I'm not just being polite...I'm not the one who described him as a genius, LOL. Like I said, I don't really think of Will as a rapper. What I like about his songs is that they're fun, silly, & goofy. I do agree that he's not in the same convo with the others that have been mentioned, and he's never come across to me like he was trying to be either.

As I've already said several times, he's much better at acting than he's ever been at music IMO.

Will was not raised in the ghetto and was not "hood" and was mocked by Ice-cube and co. about his perceived softness. I kinda liked his rap though, i am not a huge fan of "fuck the popo" gangster rap.

I don't find Ne-yo compelling as an actor or singer and certainly wouldn't want him playing someone of Martin Luther King's stature. Is Hollywood so starved for black talent that they have to recycle R&B/rap artists into half-assed thespians?

Um he was acting... get it? lol
Dude has a valid point. It wouldn't be an issue if they did good work. Take Jaimie Foxx for example probably these most talented dude of his generation. I've yet to see anyone else get an Oscar, make a platinum album, and sell out a stadium for his comedy. Modern day Sammy Davis Jr right there. But he does everything so damn well. His acting is fucking incredible everything from Jarheads to Ray was amazing. Dude kills it on the piano when he sings who can honestly forget the way he killed it on the Jamie Foxx Show when he sang and even the memorable hook on the Gold Diggers track to making his own platinum r&b joint, and dude killed on the HBO special. So from every angle dude is legit. Just wish the likes of 50 and Luda would take the time to actually perfect their craft. I'm tired of there being only two or three decent black male leads at a time

It makes no sense to me that they'd even offer the role to him.

Movie makers ought to focus on making quality movies with quality actors rather than casting people based on who they are and not on their talent. Many of these artists wouldn't be able to land any roles based on their acting abilities. It doesn't make sense to give someone a starring role when that person hasn't proven themselves as an actor. They need to go back to the audition process and choose the best actor for the part.

Yep, Jaimie Foxx is the perfect example of someone who's proven himself in everything he does. :smt023

neyo will be kicking himself in the ass tomorrow. also why would they offer HIM this role when there other well trained actors not wanna bes in the game. they always throw an black entertainer (rapper/singer) in something as serious as this to water down the role or the movie...at least to me.

Bale had been acting in Hollywood films since he was a child and was slowly building a career as a leading man before Batman. Reeves was at least a well established theater actor and did a few movies before Superman. Jamie Foxx had been an actor for years (had his own sitcom) before he was chosen as Ray Charles. Yeah, none were huge stars and in the case of MLK I don't think a huge star was needed either. But for God's sakes why bet the house on a singer with only a handful of acting credits,
none of which ever garnered any attention or acclaim for Ne-Yo? To play MLK? No way.

And, no Essence Magazine is not a great example of journalism. But its not at fault. All it was doing was relaying what Ne-Yo told its reporters/writers.

    Ne-Yo as MLK?

My goodness, the late Mr. King would be devastated to hear such a thing take place on the big screen.

Denzel as Malcom X was brilliant.
