Greece's triple-jump champion was expelled from the Olympics after posting a tasteless tweet about Africans and the West Nile virus.
Hellenic Olympic Committee officials announced Voula Papachristou wouldn't travel to London after she tweeted a joke about African immigrants.
On Monday, the track athlete posted a tweet reading, "with so many Africans in Greece, at least the West Nile mosquitos will be eating food from their own home." The comments created an uproar on Greek social media. Papachristou didn't address the criticism on Twitter for two days.
Greece later announced it would place Papchristou "outside the Olympic team for statements contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement."

It's a good lesson for her..people have to learn to think, before they open their mouth

Are you guys kidding? What she said may have been in poor taste but it wasnt racist. Theres a major difference. We have to stop perpetuating a culture that destroys dialogue. It only seperates people and creates only phony false polite interactions. It should have treated like any other unfunny joke dont laugh and move on. So damn sad

I believe you sign a clause before entering the Olympics which prohibits this kind of dialogue on a public social media platform.

That gives them the right to ban if the terms are violated.

I disagree with TDK from time to time but I agree with him 100 % here. The Tweet wasnt a big deal really. She was just trying to make a joke

No reason to suspend her imo

The vibe I get following international events is that Greeks aren't too keen on blacks in their country, the economic turmoil hasn't helped out.

Don't know how this subject came up on her part, but I feel like TDK she was just another Facebook/Twitter idiot that stuck their foot in their mouth.

It was in bad taste, but racist, neh. Only she knows for certain what her motivations were for those statements.

There are a ton of white folks who worry about the West Nile Virus every summer in the suburbs in New Jersey.

    This chick was just stupid.

She had it coming. The only thing that could have saved her is if she had a photo of an African guy kissing her with a chicken bone on one hand.

I may not like what she said but I defend her right saying it.

Also she said African, she never said blks. Africans aren't just blks. There are blks, whites, Indians, etc....Africans

Anyways, Twitter is for Twits & Twats

    Guess folks never learn.

Time and time again people use it for all mouthy means, seemingly unaware of accountability.

The way I see it anyone can say whatever they want, even the folks who may use it to say the most vile and repulsive things, but then they can't cry about the backlash they receive, because in the real world you say ignorant or disgusting things to people and you will have to deal with the consequences as well.

In the Yahoo responses of course you have some folks saying blacks are the true racists, whites can't say anything without being called racist, liberal P.C. culture is anti-white, black comedians say such and such all the time, etc.

Inevitably people will always see what they want to see in what they are looking at. I prefer to live life and just say fuck it all and pursue my happiness.

Harsh punishment or not, she's an idiot for that one. She should know that when you're in her position, saying something like that will get you looked at funny more than some random person. And since its not some comedian making the joke, fewer people are gonna go for that shit. Oh well.
