Enjoyed this last night, not sure if can access bbc panorama from outside the uk but found a snippet of it on you tube. The clip is about sports drinks but the full programme went on to look at the usefulness of training shoes and dietary supplements, including protein shakes etc. Really did highlight just how much we are influenced by marketing. Only product they said was proven to work to help performance was creatine and caffine! Trainers are useless!
speaking from exp, i can vouch for both caffeine and creatine. The caffeine does more for my workouts and really puts me in a better mood throughout the whole day, so I only use that. It's either one or the other, and not both. I tried both caffeine+creatine without researching, and found myself pissing every 30 minutes .protein shakes on the other hand, are more of a nutritional replacement for me, since I'm always on the move and don't always put in time to prepare meals. they're not to be looked upon as uber muscle builders that you must have. Lots of foods are high in protein and can help you get the same results. powerade uses high fructose corn syrup, but is cheaper than gatorade. I tend to stay away from it but do drink gatorade or water. Although, fitness purists will shy away from gatorade too because of it's sugar content. I kinda see why my old football coach said water was perhaps the best thing you could drink.
