Ban of Xbox 360 in North America

    Patent rights between Microsoft and Motorola have come into play lately. Started in German courts, the judges ruled in favor of Motorola Mobility. The issue, in question, was Microsoft being in violation of two patents involving H.264 video coding. Because of the verdict, Germany banned all sales of all Microsoft products, which include Xbox 360, Windows 7, Windows Media Player, and other Microsoft products that uses the patent coding.

    Fast forward to today and we see that the U.S. Courts may rule in favor of Motorola mobility come August 2012. That would mean no more production of Microsoft Hardware of any kind. As it stands right now, it's a recommended ruling for a Judge Shaw. Ultimately, the final ruling would be dependent on the White House and the Obama Administration's advising team.

    To anyone who are ardent Microsoft followers or Xbox 360 console only owners, pay careful attention to what is going on. Good chance Microsoft will continue to make their products and may get all this overturned, but anything can happen.

    Lmao Microsoft is a fucking machine. Nothing outside of a super volcano is gonna stop them my friend.

    Hahaha, I have little doubt that they will lose this case. But the judge seems like a prick. He said, "Nintendo and Sony can pick up the pieces."

    Oh great...never mind the fact that the Xbox 360 have their own big name franchises. But I'll admit...what do they really have exclusively outside of Master Chief?

    True but thats a pretty big exclusivity right. Truthfully what does any gaming console have the rights to anymore? Its pretty dumb to limit your self to one console as a game developer these days.
    XBOX is the biggest market in the world its not going anywhere. Judges can talk shit all they want but plain and simple money talks period.

    Halo was big, but lost a little of its luster after Halo 3. Halo Wars and Halo Reach didn't really deliver the big experience and anticipation people really wanted. Great games still, but the hype for the Halo series sort of waned. And though Halo 4 is coming out, it's being handled by a different company, all of which came from big name companies before it.

    And actually, developing a game for multiple consoles or even one serves as a double edge sword. With development costs increasing each new console, turning a profit for a software company would prove much more difficult especially when the budget is well over the millions. So, to save money, it would be easier to push it for one console, which goes to my next point: exclusivity brings a demand for consumers to buy a console.

    Looking at Nintendo's franchise characters and Sony's first party development franchises, there's a reason why they have a loyal fan base and people are willing to churn out the money to invest in that particular console. If it's not on another console, and you really love it, you'd want to buy that console more so. Therefore, it's not really dumb to put a game as an exclusive.

    Then again, if we're talking strictly third party developers, then it's a different story.

    Stuff with exclusives is irrelevant. The 360's sold the most since the Wii's fad died down. I'm sure it won't change with the next-gen consoles.

    Actually, exclusives still holds a lot of weight. Exclusives = keeping a loyal base + acquiring new ones. And the 360's popularity continues more so through it's
    Xbox Live and what have you.

    And I wouldn't call the Wii a fad or gimmick either. Gyration technology is being used a lot this generation, but more so, how's its being used. The Kinect feels more like a gimmick since it's hard to utilize the body controller technology for all genres effectively. The Wii controller...much more flexible.
