    Leg days suck....but they're a necessary evil

You draw so much ability from the lower body in terms of sports and fighting, that you can't ignore them

They make takedowns much easier when you can drive right through a guy

I hate leg days because I focus on barbell squats, doing them in standard and lunge fashion. They leave my whole body beat but like I said, they're very beneficial

    I do too.

I do barbell squats in a sitting position, is this what you do too? I enjoy them, one of the more favorable leg workouts for me. I am not so keen on the steps machine where you feel like you are on an escalator but going nowhere.

i generally do the regular squats first, then the split squats. I called them lunge squats before because you are in the lunge position..but after searching a bit, lunge squats start from regular standing position, then lunge forward, then recover and switch leg.

Sometimes I mix it up and do ATG (ass to ground) squats, where you perform a regular squat but instead go all the way down to the floor with your ass. You get a deeper squat and harder workout, but be warned :smt030

either way lower body workouts like that with free weights, incorporates so much of your body to perform

you have to have balance, form, and strength. great core workout

the guy in the squat video is using a machine..but u get the point

I actually tried the type you posted today for the first time. A lot of balance and concentration needed. Id guess more of a hypertrophy effect. :smt045

You ever do this style of lunges? My usual. A lot more plyometrics involved. Definitely warm up the knees first.

that was the squat i mentioned before...when i searched for lunge squat, the hits came back with that style. I haven't tried those or walking squats (i workout in my apartment...i gotta give a MTV Cribs style tour on youtube soon:))

i generally do the splits after I do the heavies. I look for higher reps and that sport-performance when going in on a lead leg for a takedown. Getting deep and and being able to move weight, along with using good technique helps. If I had the room, i'd probably transition to the walking squat, to simulate the power through.

My legs are kinda weak though, compared with my upper body. Not sure if that's because I neglected them for so many years, or because I have long flexible limbs.
