    Are y'all fuckin kidding me???:smt104

Wow. Maybe it's because the story was based on one of the best crime novels of all-time I don't know. Wasn't it like #1 on the New York Times bestseller for 67 weeks??? smh

If it was so overrated then why did "The Godfather" and it's sequel "The Godfather part II" go on to win a total of 8 Academy Awards including TWO for best picture???

Titantic is the highest grossing movie of all time with sevetal academy awards. Whats your point?

What TDK said. There are so many quality made movies nowadays that go under the radar. Besides, the Academy Awards is no different from any biased institution.

Let's not start something in this thread. LOL.

It's called an opinion. I think Titanic is a fantastic movie. I thought the Godfather movies were boring, but then again, were I to revisit them now, I may feel differently.

I also think there are many movies that the awards shows get very wrong: Crash and Million Dollar Baby for examples. But there again, they're my opinions. Everyone feels differently about different movies.

That's why I love the creative arts. You can reach a wide range of people and everyone comes away from it feeling differently....

Here's a point. The Godfather I and II have stood the test of time as legit masterpiece, both from a critic and fan's point of view. It is arguably the greatest American movie ever in part because those that critique films for a living and those that teach filmmaking and movie history often put it on that high a pedestal. Hell, go to IMDB where us laymen film fans hang out. Right now, based upon the hundreds of thousands of fans who have voted, Godfather I and II rank #2 and #3 of all time on a website that should certainly skew towards more modern films. And yet those two movies from the early 70s are near the top which is where they have for the most part remained ever since IMDB put out its initial Top 250. Other flicks :):cough:: Lord of the Rings trilogy::cough::) come and go but Godfather remains. So before you start comparing Godfather to Titanic, let's wait to see where Titanic stands with the masses 20 years from now (based on how quickly Titanic has slid in people's esteem I'm guessing it won't be all that great).

Oh, did I forget to mention that Godfather was #1 as well on AFI's Top 100 Movies of all time? Where there's smoke there is certainly some fire.

Same goes for Matrix. Look, I love the Matrix but it is nowhere near Godfather. Not in writing, acting, directing or cultural influence. The Godfather from all reports was a cultural phenom amongst the American public in a manner that the Matrix could only be in Neo's dreams. But its all subjective I suppose. I mean there are some people who would insist that Justin Beiber is the most talented performer ever. How would you make them think differently? Why would you want to?

Yep, it's all just personal opinion. Personally I think the Matrix movies were some of the worst of all time and would warn people not to waste their time. Oh how I wish I could get those hours back. LOL
I LOVED the Godfather movies (well, I & II....III is shite). Titanic, well, ewww.

I bought a bluray recently called 'All Good Things' and I'm sad to say that I would warn people not to waste their money on that either. :( I love me some Ryan Gosling, but that movie put me to sleep.

Come on now :smt011 You knew what you were gettin into when you saw that movie poster. A low budget, 300 wannabe flick that should have gone straight to Netflix .

LOL! Yes I knew going in it wouldn't be a very good movie, but I can usually find something to redeem those types of movies a bit. However, I went in with zero expectations and still couldn't stand the movie.

There are some cheesy bad movies (that suck but can still have some entertainment value) and then there are just truly bad movies. That movie was the latter.

    According to you maybe.

Its a cinematic masterpiece that has stood the test of time and still holds up today. Not to mention has some of the best performances in all of film.

Of all the films you could choose, you fuckin choose The Godfather??:smt017

    My choice would be Gerry.

It stars Matt Damon & Casey Affleck (I'm a fan of both) and its directed by Gus Van Sant (good well respected director) so I'm thinking this should be pretty good.

    WRONG.

Literally one of the worst films I've ever seen. Nothing and I mean NOTHING ever happens in this movie. Its like watching paint dry, its that bad!

    Don't see this shit!

Are you kidding? The Matrix literally changed the way they do films. Bullet time and 360 camera shots not to mention the introduction of wire work to the American films all came from The Matrix my friend. The story was fucking amazing, the idea of sleep walking being trapped by the machine was an incredible concept. The acting was fricking on point for the purpose of the movie. And as far as cultural influence I don't know what rock you've been living under but that film is the most culturally relevant film of the last decade.
I guess it is all subjective but I can't LOVE the Godfather especially when I think other mob movies were far better. I'll but Goodfellas, Casino, and New Jack City up against the trilogy anytime of the week.

Yeah. I'll agree to that one. I'll give a very small nod to the Original Star Wars Trilogy also. Return of the Jedi had flaws but compared so a lot of these other # 3 in the series movie I can swallow those flaws. Still pissed off about Blade Trinity. That of all the Blade movies should have been the one that did box office damage if done properly considering Dracula or rather who/what was suppose to be Dracula was the antagonist.

It seems like most third movies suck with another exception which is Rocky III

But Superman III sucked, Back to the Future III sucked, The Matrix Revolution sucked, Batman Forever sucked, Spiderman 3 SUCKED BIG TIME.

It's like studios will try to make money at all costs.

Whenever I watch it, I see a bunch of dead-pan old men still shitting in their diapers on whether who kills who. I actually fell asleep watching the first movie because it didn't grip my interest.

For the record, I find greater storytelling in video games nowadays than any of the movies, past or present.
