There was no bitching about the Asian character in the Thor movie mainly because that character in the comics is actually Asian or rather the Asgardian dimension version of a Mongul and created for the comics. Don't know if this was ever mentioned, but in the comics the Heimdall character is the brother of Sif the female warrior featured in the movie and initially the plan was to also cast a black actress for that part as well.
well stated. it would be best for blacks not to formerly boycott with the marches but just dont go. also support black quality movies
Maybe a Luke Cage/Power Man movie is in question and in the meantime, go ahead and support it, especially when it'll be part of the eventual Avengers trilogy/saga/movies...etc...
I wouldn't mind another Blade movie. Maybe a reboot of the story. However, I think a reboot of a Spawn movie would be so much better.
u aint eva lied that's some bullshit you mean hollywood couldn't find enough fluent asian cats to represent those MIT students from 21... ..or find enough chop-socky Asians to star in DBZ? Prince of Persia? dont even get me started... If Jake Gylenhall is Arabian, i'm from fucking Pluto on a side style tho...is it me or does it seem like Hollywood does not want to put Asians in a primarily Drama-type movie? When you see a lot of asians in a film, it's usually some action flick like Rush Hour. That's why I was surprised when DBZ gave them the shun. Hollywood loves to stereotype those mothafuckas. I guess 21 being all mathematical would be too stereotypical for Asians as well... hmmm
The clown was actually integral to the storyline. The acting didn't match the character at all. The Clown/Violator was more sinister. If you saw the HBO cartoon, he actually was much closer to the comic book's portrayal. By the way, there was a Batman/Spawn crossover and The Joker and the Clown worked together.
Its artistic freedom when they do it. When we do it its revisionist history. Thats tge main reason I just couldnt watch DBZ pure bullshit snd until you guys mentioned it I had no clue 21 was suppose to be Asians. Some shit just never changes
yeah 21 is kinda based on the true story of those wickedly brilliant asian students@MIT. I decided to look it up and seen mugshots of a bunch of asian people, and wondered why everyone in the movie except one dude, was white. as for DBZ....fuck that. I grew up watching that and to just white-wash the whole story like that, was disgraceful as if minorities didn't have a hard enough time as it is landing big roles
Also another thing I noticed in Dragonball was they made the guy who played Goku white but the actress who played his love interest, Chi Chi, is ethnically Korean.
FYI - Heimdall is not referred to as explicitly 'white' or any other race. Further, in all these mythologies, many members of the pantheon are not physically representative of the ethnic group that spawned them. There are people who appear to be half-animal, of other races, and other colors and everything else. So, unless it's explicit and material to the character, who cares? Hermes is supposed to have wings on his ankles, so are we only going to hire someone who has wings on their feet?
the only reason people care is because Norse mythology was supported and believed in by Caucasians (why gods or celestial beings would appear black to them, is beyond me...but i guess its possible) therefore, many of them feel as if their 'gods' or lore, should reflect the way they look when's the last time you seen a black Norseman?
But heres the thing historical facts arent required since Thor is the Marvel interpretation of Thor much like Disney's Hercules. Its not required to be mythologically accurate.
