This is a murder trial so you can assume his defense team is going to do EVERYTHING they possibly can to exonerate their client.

The problem is, the evidence in his favor is lacking.
Zimmerman refused to be taken to the hospital after the attack, so if he had a broken nose, it wasn't diagnosed that night with x-rays from an ER exam.

When did Zimmerman go to the hospital?? I saw at the bond hearing Zimmerman's attorney present the detective being interviewed on the stand medical records confirming that Zimmerman indeed had suffered a broken nose.

But if those records are more than a couple days after the incident, I expect them to be challenged as to when those injuries occurred.

I know if I had just murdered someone and claimed it was self-defense, I would have welcomed a visit to a hospital ER that same night so I could tell a doctor every damn inch of my body was hurting and broken so I could have it documented.

This dude claims Trayvon was basically killing him with his bare hands, yet was straight enough to go home that night after being interviewed briefly by Sanford PD.

What kills me is how much weight Zimmerman has dropped since Trayvon's murder.

This was the first media photo of Zimmerman I believe from 2005.

The media released a more recent photo later that reflected Zimmerman's current weight.

This was what George Zimmerman looked like after being arrested and at his bond hearing.

Also, at the bond hearing and after he was released, Zimmerman was wearing this huge ass kevlar vest.smdh.

It's going to really help him in open court to look anorexic. Most jurors are going to have a hard time believing this 'little guy' was the aggressor in Martin's murder.

Very true. Smart tactic on their part. This case was going to go in his favor from jump. The investigation was poorly handled from day one creating all kinds of reasonable doubt.

Of course there's a slant. It's a blog posting, not an objective article. I posted it because I thought the points he raises are important, thoughtful ones.

POSTSCRIPT: My apologies, all, I just noticed that goodlove made the same point on Page 6 of this thread. Sorry for being redundant.

As for paniro187's comment about giving people the benefit of the doubt and not seeing racism everywhere. I agree with his thinking on that narrow issue, and yet I still see this as racial in scope, whether from the standpoint of Zimmerman's own perceived racial bias or the broader societal bias that the blogpost pointed out, in which all black men are thought to be criminal until they demonstrate otherwise. I don't think every disagreement between blacks and whites is racially motivated, but I think that racially motivated animus is quite common. When an officer places his hand on his gun during a routine traffic stop while I am wearing my suit and legislature employee's badge or calls me 'boy' (granted the last time it happened I was in my late thirties - the "boy" comment, not the routine traffic stops, which happen at least once a year), call me stupid, but I happen to see racial animus there.

When you remove the bullshit, theyre not on his side. Hes just used as a vehicle to promote their identity and or ideology. Whether it be gun rights activists, conservatives or simply those wanting to stick it to Sharpton and the like.

And when you dont have a blood, cultural or racial connection to young men like Trayvon, its much easier to align yourself on the wrong side of justice.

I don't know if I really believe he got that much. Maybe they just inflated it to make people believe a lot of other's were in his corner, when really it wasn't that many. And he conveniently forgot to tell the judge he made that amount at his bond hearing. I question if it exists. So I truly do not believe that figure or that people would support him. His dad is a judge or was, live off daddy's bucks. Quit begging.

as much as I hate the high volume of my hospital, i do appreciate the fact that I never have to worry about being downgraded to part-time. It's hard to find, train and retain experienced workers, that are needed round the clock in a clinical/support capacity. no bullshit.

people are continually leaving as well..due to burnout or god knows what..but people rarely get fired unless they're just completely useless

we currently have too much work and a shortage of staff actually:smt106

Florida laws are hard to figure out......

Mother of three, no prior record, Phd , abusive husband.....she fires one shot in the ceiling during altercation, tries to use Stand Your Ground and she gets 20 years??

Abused wife sentenced to 20 YEARS for firing warning shot at husband after Florida's 'Stand Your Ground defense' fails

Disbelief: Marissa Alexander breaks down in court as she is sentenced to 20 years for firing a gun during a fight with her husband

A Florida woman has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars for firing a gun into the ceiling of her home in front of her husband and their two young children.

Though Marissa Alexander, 31, was claiming she shot in self-defense, citing the state’s now-infamous Stand Your Ground law, the jury and prosecutors said in this case, the law could not be invoked.

During the 2010 altercation between now 36-year-old Rico Gray, Alexander had left the room during the argument to retrieve the gun.

Stand your ground: Alexander turned down a three-year plea bargain, hoping she could prove her innocence in front of a jury

The case puts in sharp relief the February shooting of Sanford, Florida teenager Trayvon Martin by Neighbourhood Watch Captain George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman insisted that he shot the unarmed teen in self-defence. Authorities waited weeks before arresting him.

Alexander had already taken out a protective order on her husband, First Coast News reported. Her mother told WOKV-TV that her husband threatened to kill her.

The 31-year-old mother had rejected a plea bargain from the State Attorney’s Office for three years, but Alexander rejected it, in hopes of convincing the jury that her story corroborated with the evidence.
Last week, she filed a motion to have her trial dismissed on the controversial Stand Your Ground law, the Huffington Post said.

However, Judge Daniel James rejected the motion as Alexander could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she was in danger of sustaining bodily harm.

Appeal: The mother-of-three holds a PhD; her lawyer is looking to appeal the sentence, as Alexander had no previous criminal record

Florida’s harsh 10-20-Life statutes give harsh punishments for all gun crimes. For pulling a gun out during a crime, the sentence is ten years.
For firing the gun, a mandatory 20-year sentence is issued.

A person convicted in shooting dead a victim with a gun faces 25 years to life in prison.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections’ website, the strict statutes have driven down gun violence by as much as 30 per cent.

Alexander’s attorney, Kevin Cobbin, told WOKV that he and his client plan to appeal the conviction, emphasising the fact that she is a PhD-holding mother of three who had not been in trouble before.

Her sentence was lessened the 458 days she has been in jail.

U.S. Rep Corrine Brown told news4jax.com that the sentencing is unjust, noting that a white man who was convicted of murder Friday was sentenced to 15 years.

No one was injured in the altercation involving Alexander’s children and husband.

‘If there ever was a stand-your-ground case, it was this one,’ she told the station.

‘This is the beginning, not the end. Clearly, there is institutional racism.’

Under normal circumstances, you don't leave an argument and come back with a gun. If he was assaulting here, then she had every right to get her gun...I know the Gun Lobby must be fuming over this one.

But as usual, facts can be left out....so she fucked herself....she was going to get PROBATION.

She sounds like a HOTHEAD that if you argue with her, she pulls out her gun!
(That's if she doesn't beat you).

Still though...20 yrs is RIDICULOUS. Blame Florida's sentencing laws. Always have been outrageous. Especially their drug sentences..

No, not really. The judicial system down there displays favoritism for whites (in particular, the white females). Everyone else gets a more aggressive sentence for the same act they commit. The same kind of problem is seen within the nation's K to 12 school systems. A revolt in Florida and across the country needs to take place.
