Preach Ches. Sick of the excuses. Many poor law-abiding citizens. What a slap in the face to them to insinuate they are criminally- minded. As IF rich people are exempt from stealing/robbing/killing characteristics because they have money.

 

C'mon now. These dudes who resort to drugs and stealing - they're really trying to feed a family that way? I have a hard time with that. Maybe a few. Many of them steal for the high that stealing and getting away with it gives them or they steal because they are lazy or can't be bothered with a legitimate job.

I have absolutely no problem with someone seeking and accepting public assistance if they truly need it. And I believe public assistance was designed to be a temporary measure, not a career option.

 

Of course not, some criminals just studied.. And the funny thing is that the successful criminals (staring from the street) would be clever and disciplined enough to be very successful business men.

My father worked two jobs to keep our family afloat. We never owned a house. My mother couldn't work outside the home. I've worked more than one job already to keep things going. And when I lost my job, I temped until I could find full-time work.

Any person, who is physically and/or mentally capable of holding down a job and who has any self-respect will find ways to make ends meet and when they can't will put their pride aside and seek help. I'm not saying that there aren't those who are trying to feed families and resort to illegal activity out of desperation. But, imo, to choose it for other reasons is just not a viable excuse and it sounds like there are some here who believe that it is.

The only thing I have a hard time believing is that any reasoning adult will say illegal activity is an acceptable career option and it sounds as though some on here believe that to be true.

I wont believe it because my church, an inner city church, is full of people with criminal pasts that now live respectable lives. Including most of our pastors.

 

At the church I used to go to the information was freely put by the minister in the annual report.....the financials. And his background and education on the website. I don't think it's unusual to know that is you are a member at a church, blk4.

 

You watch too much TV. What part of "inner city" dont you understand? We cant support pastors who own $400,000 homes and luxury cars. And they freely admit to their pasts. Why? So they can minister with credibility to the very kinds of people we're discussing in this thread.

 

For every available job there are four applicants. What happens to the other three. Someone please answer that. You guys act like getting a job is easy right. People withput records are having a hard time college graduates are flipping burgerd. Talk about putting ypur head in the sand

 

So the other three who don't get the job should do...what? Turn to crime? I think that's what our Government is there for..as a safety net. There's also churches, Agencies, food-banks, etc. that are there to help, too. You don't need much to live on. eg: You don't need a car - take the bus. You don't need a house - get an apartment. You don't need new clothes - go to consignments, etc.

 

On a SIDE-NOTE...

Having a criminal record these days doesn't preclude one from being able to get a job. It's more what you did. Most kids who made ‘mistakes/bad choices” early in life are expunged or sealed.

Most applications ask for felony convictions only and “in the last 5/10 years”. Most people aren’t felons. They may have a misdemeanor conviction/s or might go through the justice system, but they don’t usually see prison time. I don’t think jobs care too much if a 40yr old man did something in his teens.

A law just passed here where you cannot ask if a person has a criminal history on Apps,
allowing a person to get a foot in the door.

*Though, it might end up being a waste of time for some jobs being applied for.

 

Are you unaware of whats going on out there. Not everyone who needs help gets it. Dont get a house get an apt? And pay for it how. Even public housing is getting steep and they have a ten year waiting list here in NY. Food banks are being exhausted on the regular as well as soup kitchens. Do you think everyone committing crime is doing it out of moral failing? Talk about of touch. I am not saying all criminals looking for work but they take the path of least resistance. Sell drugs or steal opposed to wasting time trying to find jobs that arent available. Not saying this is right I just understand the line of thinkig.
