I just watched a documentary about black comedy/comedians and Chris Rock said that TV is more segregated today. My first reaction was " wait, what???". Then I started to think and I think he is correct.
Newer shows usually look lame so I never pay attention to them. I'm out of touch. Sucks if it is true though.
maybe...maybe not? I honestly think TV has always been segregated but there has been a lot of strides and set backs as well. I can recall in the 90's channels like: UPN, the WB and even Nikolodeon had kind of an African American tint across them with standard shows. I've notice since black stations kind of went into mainstream- you don't see it how it used to be. I remember if you had BET back then, you had some expensive satellite television set up that only wealthy people could afford. I've noticed some very popular syndicated shows that happen to be very diverse (my name is earl, big bang theory, community, scrubs, etc).
Look at All That in the first 2-3 seasons. It had an overall black theme and every musical guest was something like BlackStreet, Soul 4 Real, Da Brat, then it moved to Brittney Spears n' shit and all the musical guests were similar to her. And Community is one of the few new shows I watch. Damn good show.
I am sure Chris Rock meant that it has always been segregated, but he is saying it is more segregated now. How does that correlate to the strides we are making??? We all know where the powers lay in Hollywood, but it is certainly interesting if we are getting more segregated in TV. I see it as a convoluted issue. On one hand you have more bi-"racial" adds and shows like "the view" w 2 bw. etc, but what abut regular main hour sitcoms etc on basic channels .....where is the next Huxtables and all the others black sit coms that were on regular TV making a mark, there were quite a few. Where are they now.....
That is true, but w segregated Chris Rock meant channels, not shows. I kinda side tracked myself on my last comment.
I think with some shows, there's more integration than before and with others, it's still a "White" world, like non-Blacks are non-existent, period. SMH... I think since Obama has been in office, race has come more to the forefront, which is good, in the sense where I want the real racists to show their true colors (no pun intended), but of course, it makes people think and see things through stereotypes and in absolutes.
You could say there's a little bit of truth to what Chris Rock said. A lot of TV today is segregated and it’s been that way for awhile now. However It doesn’t bother me as much as it would for majority of those in my "demographic". I find myself gravitating more towards shows like "Scrubs", "Happy Endings", or "How I Met Your Mother" as opposed to anything on that network Bob Johnson sold to Viacom or any of that Tyler Perry b.s. I got hip to this show earlier this year and it’s now one of my personal favorites.
I love Happy Endings, its goofy as hell - right up my alley Can you believe that it was very close to be cancelled early on - so close that Wayans actually was slated to be on New Girl (which is horrible btw).
haha basically my main problem with those type of shows, is that they don't offer black actors any roles to contend for. That just shrinks the role pool, you know...as if landing an acting gig was not hard enough as it were. im watching Battlestar Galactica from start to finish, and so far I can find NO real meaningful, consecutive roles filled by a black actor. Good show by the way. There's one black female who you see like every 4 or 5 episodes..but come on... lol
My Xbox is my cable box these days with netflix and hulu plus. Also I have an antenna connected to my TV, I get the best picture using a antenna compared to cable or satellite.
that's all u need really tbh, id rather have Netflix @7.99 month over ANY premium movie channel cable offers Redbox is supposedly about to enter the market for streaming content as well. If they can do what Netflix does AND provide their lineup of New releases..ill switch over to them
haha you wrong, boy :smt043 seriously tho i spend most of my time watching shows WHEN I want to watch them netflix >>>>> on demand
