Dude whether the crime is random or not, it still contributes to the atmosphere of violence and low quality of life. Some fool trying to rob someone for a new Jordan's, iPod Some clown trying to gain a gang rep by shooting some innocent person for street cred. You seem to be using an odd logic about the randomness or not of crime, when its the violence itself that creates an unsafe environment. If people are criminally inclined I don't want to be around them period Because when shit starts popping off you could easily turn into a victim, we have seen it time and time again in black communities.
While I understand where you are coming from bro. Until blacks are ready to speak up loudly and clearly and say no level violence is acceptable or tolerable then it will continue. Look at the shocking statistics for young black males killing each other in these communities. That is a failure on every level of social rearing. Some fools think walking around with a gun and talking loudly is being a real man. I'm strapped nigga, what you wanna do. :smt102 This bring us full circle to the Trayvon Marin shooting, where folks have every right to be upset, but as someone remarked where is the anger when young black men are killing each other in the streets every single day. The poster blk4ww speaks about black violence not being random, no they're just "STATISTICS" Tag the body and wait for the next call.
LOL, dude I lived in a grimy part of Crown Heights, Brooklyn for years, New York City Housing Authority Public Housing. While what you say is true about minding your own business, it doesn't alleviate the sound of gun shots late at night or seeing the negative effects of violence in those communities. The gang culture and just wanton disrespect for law and order, hard working, decent folks shouldn't have to tolerate that where they reside. This ain't no TV show viewpoint bro, Don't let the extra well spoken words and standoffish view fool you about someone's background. Its just that in seeing that behavior over and over I realized there is better out there than that. The last thing I wanted to be was a statistic for the judicial system in any way whatsoever. Too many young black males wind up as a statistic for the system. Just another nigga rotting in prison or 6 feet deep, what kind of life is that. That's foolishness.
Don't knock it till you have tried it bro, you might like the taste. You may not realize that some ladies here feel the atmosphere has actually become toxic and disrespectful as opposed to ass kissing as you term it. What you will find is white women will be on tip toes and actually try to be very PC about these kind of issues. I'm black so I don't give a damn about being politically correct about whether or not I like being around a bunch of classless, no manners ass having Negroes. My whole motto when dealing with others is come correct or don't bother coming at all. I avoid foolishness.
Yeah but still the gang affiliations and violence continues. Much of the violence in the black community has a gang affiliation to it. Dudes repping their colors or turf of the projects and willing to kill over it because that is what they think has meaning and value in life. All that is in reality as I mentioned is a U.S. Department of Justice/FBI/Local P.D. statistic Blacks may be concerned but are they angry, are they pissed the fuck off, are they at wits end and say no more, because the issues still continue. Behind that lies a host of social reasons as well, nonetheless many still fall into the trap. LOL, hey like you said you had to know where and when to walk the streets. Every night on queue you would hear the gunshots, imagine walking around outside at that time. So most folks knew well to stay indoors after a certain time. But the bigger question is should they have to live that way. You could try to be "tuff gong" and think you can walk wherever, whenever, but if you get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, it could have dire consequences in certain areas. Bullets will stop the toughest bad-ass wannabe. One of the first things I always highlight to people is that there are many hard working folks in these poor communities that want better and just to live a peaceful, quiet life. Its the ignorant few with weapons, drugs and twisted loyalties that fuck it up with their "just don't give a fuck" mentality.
yeah man I was walking around my town of Fairfield one night blaring my headphones and walking to walmart and some thugs yelled out "Buster ass nigga come here", I looked over and he had a revolver pointed at me while he was leaning outside the car from the window. I didn't know those guys at all. I get nervous when people confuse me for someone else. I remember a year ago I took the bart train down to Fremont to goto a tech venue and when I hit the corner to catch a bus all I heard was "There's T!". Then I seen a group of black people and they started smiling and dancing and getting rambunctious.. it was pretty funny actually lol. Then when they found out I wasn't him, they looked somewhat sad- it was like that person they thought I was would start the party haha.
Damn bro. That's another thing, coming across a bunch of rowdy clowns looking to start shit from out of the blue. These dudes think a gun makes you a man. Look at your situation you are minding your business and that happens. I remember even in college me and a few of my friends were outside of a bar, when this dude comes out of nowhere and starts shouting at my friend. "I thought I told you I would fuck you up if I saw you again nigga" My friend had no idea who the fuck this dude was, he seemed to be someone looking to start shit. There is a prison, Denomora Correctional Facility in Upstate New York close to where my college is and this dude must have been released from there and hanging around the students and local bars once released. He had that fresh out the joint look. ala Debo from Friday Amazing how shit can find you from out of the blue.
I'm aware of that, don't get me wrong. I was simply examining issues within the black community when you mentioned the violence factor and its impact. I don't think this is even about being around too much black folks per say as it is about being around too much ignorant folks of any background. If you are in a 1% biker bar, you might get punched in the face in a drunken brawl If you are hanging around MS 13 you might be part of some shit breaking off If you are chilling with the Triads don't be shocked if a rival opens up gun fire So yeah all groups have undesirables you wouldn't want to hang around. For the sake of the black community though those groups aren't going to have an impact as compared to the black gangs in black neighborhoods and the effects of it.
But We are talking about riff raffs, not black people in general. I made a comment about two obvious social classes of blacks these days and sometimes the media just lumps us into one group but it isn't that generalized its a bit more complex. We aren't afraid of going to black events, there are a lot of nice black events that I goto about being entrepreneurs and I love them. I don't goto events where pants are half-sagging off asses or where grinding to Wacka Flocka occurs. Same as Asians and Whites. Your not gonna see someone in the financial district who has a masters degree goto an event where there are a bunch of hells angels with tattoos drinking brews. You don't see any educated Asians hang out with the Asian thugs. Granted the man who wrote that article is ignorant as hell because he generalized all blacks but that doesn't stop the notion of not being around riff raffs for fearing something might pop off. I bet there are certain portions of white people he would never even think of being around.
I honestly do not get the impression that anyone here has expressed "fear of black people" - more-so they avoid certain situations with certain shady actions going on. This is where the fired author got it wrong - he was just ignorantly blatant:"avoid groups of Blacks" - never mind you could find that in a family reunion picnic or a church gathering. He also failed to realize that the Black father probably had a similar discussion with his son about exactly what the men in here have expressed - “Son, you need to avoid certain situations if you see a group of BM hanging out with colors on, etc“.. (and that was just a generic example, plz don't pick it apart) But I have a question for you since you always have ones for me…. I know you are the first to complain if someone bring in other races behavior as examples to defend a position, so since you have done the very thing with your "Black aren’t only gangs - there Hells Angels, Asian and Hispanic gangs too, etc"… My question to you is - Do you think that WP avoid the Hells Angels gangs if they see them in the street? And Hispanics avoid the Hispanics gangs, etc? If your answer is yes, why then do you question BP for avoiding the same situations that white/Asian/Hispanic people most likely would, by accusing them as “fearing their fellow Black people"?
Oh Alectrona, you are effin hilarious!! ^^^^ Ok, I do not know what "buck dance with you" means. I also asked you not to take my example of "colors' as literal - it was a soft ex: of what a father might say to his son to avoid a wrong situation, because frankly a father might not be as PC in warning his son to "walk the other way". If I wrote that you'd have gotten pissy and asked, "Everybody, can you ask Miss Bliss what she means?!?" :axe: Absolutely violence does happen in all cultures/races etc...no one has ever denied that and I do understand yours and TDK's POV on that. But you have to be fair in your argument by admitting that there is a dilemma occurring, if only based on the number of BM that keep getting killed. I'm going to ignore your "NONE is random", or your changed to "most" know their killers" - .it's gone beyond that WHERE I LIVE. We are top 3 in stats every year, so you cannot ignore it. If it is primarily because of covert gangs as you suggest, it's not evident here. What is evident is the lack of respect for life, and I personally don't care if the motive was "a robbery turned deadly", or "you stole my drugs" or even "you looked at me wrong, so I'm going to shoot you". The horrific thing to me is somewhere along the way, the killing of BM has become ACCEPTABLE and the so-called "reasons" to do it are simply RIDICULOUS!
Dude I don't know about you but I don't want my children playing in areas where people get shot and motherfuckas deal drugs. That's not bougie that's called good parenting.
No doubt. I mean, anyone choosing not to hang back in the hood is not so much about "forgetting" where they came from as much as it is that they remember exactly.
Well I am Jamaican and went last September and depending where you go your good. People can also tell if your tourist so they tend to leave tourists alone because they bring in the majority of the money to the island. Places like Mandeville and Negril are great at night but I wouldn't go into Spanish Town, Kingston late at night to even collect a winning lotto ticket. That shit is absolutely no joke. Dudes kill you for looking at them wrong. I always tell people American gangsta and third world gangsta are two different animals. Glad you enjoyed yourself. Next time you go let me know my brother works at one of the good hotels in Montego Bay.
I wish more people took that stance. I don't mind go to the hood to give back via my volunteer work but after a certain time fuck that noise. Especially as the weather gets warmer.
This is the truth right there. If someone doesn't value their own life, they can't even begin to value the lives of others. Its all bullshit, but its the only thing that has meaning to these guys in their life. Not only has the killing become acceptable but they are treated as merely statistics ala just another dead "nigga" killed over probably drugs, gang, etc. Its treated with apathy and irrelevancy.
