Exactly. It's about being smart & using common sense, & it has nothing to do with avoiding anyone on the basis of race.

Well said, Ra. I grew up poor as dirt, & I've known many black people in the same situation & we all turned out just fine...being poor or living in "the hood" doesn't mean everyone is a lowlife and/or criminal. There is bad element in any & every group of people regardless of race or financial status or whatever else.

LOL @ calling her emotional when you're the one with your panties in a bunch.

You may not have used the words themselves, but the words you did use meant the same damn thing.

It's obvious you have some personal dislike for Bliss (otherwise you wouldn't keep trying to stay on her ass like a hemorrhoid), so why don't you do yourself & everyone else a favor & put her on ignore. If you're not willing to do that, then get over yourself & shut up already.

  2. Hmmm...pretty interesting the responses in this thread. Particularly from Dark Knight and Bliss. Frankly, as a West Indian-American i get a little tried of people talking about black people as if we're a monolithic race. You do realize there are black ethnic groups right. I've been to many Caribbean barbecues and outings and not a damn thing has popped off. Same for African events as well. What i do find interesting is that this is more a socio-economic thing than racial. If you go to gatherings with most lower income people altercation can happen ( rednecks, hoodrats, cholos etc) so to act like this is just black thing is asinine.

And Dark Knight as for you, i'm often weary of someone who will throw his own people under the bus at the drop of a hat. It's much like i hear people say i don't like going to movies with too many black people yet i've been to movies in italian and irish neighborhoods where people won't shut the fuck up. Be careful not to paint everyone with the same brush stroke.

To be fair the majority of murders in the US are committed by someone the victim knew so he is on point there.
And unless its a robbery gone bad people don't usually (not saying never ever) just go up to people and starting shooting or stabbing.

I don't know where your getting this from

I completely disagree, blacks usually always teach their children about race. What I think black people don't do is honestly work together. Many individuals but not a team. One reason for this(that doesn't really get talked about at all) is that there are two obvious indifferent classes of black people now. There is a progressive minority and an ignorant majority. I know brothers on here feel this sentiment because most of us identify with the former group ten-fold.

    Cosign my friend.

And unfortunately its incredibly difficult to raise up the ignorant. As long as their comfortable they will never change and I personally want to spend my precious time doing other things other than trying to explain to some asshole why its unbecoming to wear throwbacks and baggy jeans to work at 30

Well I explained my pov fam and it coincides with your example of hood spots. All the places I listed are where people from lower incomes hang out so your correct in saying its a certain kind of black people but unfortunately for me where I live in NY black people from my socio economic background don't normally just chill with each other. There is always some dummy who brings their no good childhood friends or cousins to a civilized event for fear of not "keeping it real". Or for some reason they have blinders on.
I also have to disagree about the West Indian thing. I'm West Indian as well and unless its a church sanctioned event where there's a lot of us shit pops off. Check out Mt. Vernon or parts of BK its always live out there.
I know its not innate I know there's a shit ton of social factors that contribute to the problem but the fact still remains when I see 10 or more of us gathered in non professional attire I am on alert and its all due to past experience. Fuck the news media, I've seen motherfuckas stabbed and shot with my own two eyes over absolutely nothing but a word or some spilt drinks. True story sorry

No, that wasn't his point. THAT WAS MY POINT, by default. He switched to "most" later after being called on it.

There is no question that there are acts of violence that are not random - that was NEVER my disagreement - that was HIS alone, that NONE of the crime in the hood is random.
My point was and still is to him - there are many many acts of random violence in the hood, where the victim does not know their perp, let alone ASK FOR IT! as he insisted. Now I know you're not disagreeing with that, just to support your pinhead friend?

Agree completely. Most people who gather to celebrate whatever do just that. I have never witnessed or experienced anything but absolute fun, laughter, good food, good music, etc.. Same thing as I have at predom White parties.
I think the fired author in the OP missed the point entirely of what the original Author speaking to his Black son was actually conveying.

Like Ymra would say what does many mean anyway?
I think dude's point is that for the way black people are stereotyped it would suggest far more random acts of violence than actually occurs. As a group we're not known for random spree killing like whites and apparently Asians are yet we're the face of the boogyman who might roll up on you.
We all hear about the stories where some little kid or innocent bystander is caught in a gang shooting but from what I've read and seen the vast majority of the violence is restricted to on going beef.

That wasn't his point, so please stop adding to it and apologizing for it. Now if what you wrote is YOUR point, I cannot co-sign it, simply because plenty of violent criminals don't hurt the people they know or love, but they do hurt strangers. Certainly there is ongoing gang beef to explain crime, but its not majority - and I'm not saying random is, either. But to discount the prevalence of random acts is disingenuous. From post 1, I gave him me and my observations as an example - and that I am not alone, and he ignored it. I have several personal examples.

What is it with you and your buddy always defending the perps, anyway? I keep trying to explain to you that the labels aren't what you should be focused on - just the end result. If you want to pretend that Black victims are such because "they did something to deserve it", to make you feel better that perps aren't perceived as "bogeymen", then go ahead my friend. But you are slapping the face of many crime victims who are completely innocent and "undeserving, and don't give a PC shit if their perp is labeled a bogeyman instead of a gangbanger.

Who the fuck was defending perps? Well if we're going to take personal accounts into this argument in my own life I've only heard of random acts of violence where the person was killed and they didn't know the person that killed them. Even bar and club fights rarely ended in death just getting beat the fuck up. But the run up on you and kill you murders were always done by either rival gang members(people from the same neighborhoods who usually know each other mind you). And I never implied or agreed with the idea that if you know your murderer you deserve it, that's fucking ridiculous.
So again me having a different point of view results in me hating blacks or whites, depending on your race baiting mood, so we can just agree to disagree. You think how you want and I'll think how I want.

Good half truth telling. How about bolding everything I wrote in that post instead of the words that support your horseshit propaganda.

That's fucked up, but sadly its not out of the realm at all.

I don't think its black folks, I think its too many niggas that might not know how to act right, i.e. dumb asses that stay wanting to bring drama where it don't belong.

I didn't go to black parties, but went to one my boy was having to support him, he's a DJ.

No sooner I was 10 minutes in there the cops came in.

Heard the location had a history of guns and violence breaking out, so the cops just raided it before that night followed suit.

After that I told him, that's the last time I'm at one of his gigs.
