OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A gunman opened fire Monday at a small Christian university in California, killing at least seven people, wounding three more and setting off an intense, chaotic manhunt that ended with his capture at a nearby shopping center, authorities said.

The gunfire erupted around midmorning at Oikos University. Heavily armed officers swarmed the school in a large industrial park near the Oakland airport and, for at least an hour, believed the gunman could still be inside.

    R.I.P to the victims!

Why didn't One L. Goh, just kill HIMSELF! Coward POS! Can't EVEN be safe at school anymore. These slaughters are just heartbreaking.

All those bullets and not one for his head. UGH!

    It was so crazy!

I live in the SF Bay Area and at 11AM all the stations had this blaring as live urgent news- it was so unreal. Not to mention, just a few weeks ago there was a mass murder in San Francisco as well. :(

If it is really that simple then how can you explain the recent school killings in Toulouse, France where they have tough gun laws. It really isn't that simple. The criminals get the weapons.

Attempting to do away with the 2nd amendment "The right to bare arms" will never succeed in this country....the lobby is too strong.......However, providing metal detection in every institution might be a better solution.....Schools can not continue to be cheap with regards to their protection......The measures have to be draconian:.......1.)A resource officer and metal detector at every door....and 2.)Immediate expulsion and conviction for any violators...no exceptions !!....

Unless I'm going to Blondie's Pizza or something, I drive past/through Oakland and don't stop til I get to SF.

A shooting out there, no surprise. A mass school shooting should be a surprise to me...but it honestly isn't. RIP to the victims. Shit is ridiculous.

Its not that simple babes. I know a dude, (non violent/ hard worker), with at least 30 guns with only about half registered. Guns are in the streets like crack and here to stay.

    I totally agree

The criminals don't follow any rules. So you can make laws but the small percentage that commit crimes do whatever to get the job done.

I personally have never touched or held a gun, nor have any desire. I have only seen one in my whole life. So as Mark Twain would say.......it's grossly overexagerated when people of other countries view us all a running around with guns in hand. You don't hear about the me's in the news which is what 90% of the US population is....me's who don't get own guns. We're law abiding and boring.

Even when you have gun laws like some countries you still have shootings...explain. They are outlawed. The rule followers don't have them and the crazies and criminals do. And still shootings.

You have to get at the heart of crime and many times it's oppression and bad conditions. Though, NY has reduced crime in recent years by more enforcement and tougher. I don't know about their murder rates going down though, just other crimes.

And archman why do you need a metal detector? At this point you could only regulate tougher ammunition. And arch...... bare=naked. So you are saying get naked with a gun.

Nah, I go to the one in Berkeley. I tried to find the one in SF but my GPS was being a piece of shit and traffic was ridiculous by by that time.

Would be nice if it was possible but that's not realistic. There are more guns in this country than there are people. Besides the 2nd amendment here pretty much sacred as far as many Americans are concerned, and this country is full of gun nuts.

Guns are here to stay. Tougher laws may slow things down but that's it. The black market is a SOB.

jordie me love, i do understand that not all americans run around with guns, but if a country is well known for protecting its second amendment & it's right to bear arms so passionately, then unfortunately, that's the way other countries will view it. it's like the misconception that we aussies are all fosters drinking, kangaroo riding convicts (you'll never catch me drinking fosters) lol.
i live in a country where we have strict gun laws, and whilst it's not perfect, and people are getting firearms, there is no where near the same amount of killing over here as there is over there.
in relation to the recent shooting spree in toulouse, i read that the man has connections to al-qaeda and if i'm to be honest, i cannot think of any other reported shootings in france like that prior to this one.
as i have said, i don't believe the banning of guns is a perfect solution, but it's got to be better than allowing anyone access to one.
just my views on it :smt102

I can't break down population wise.......vs shootings, US to Aus or US to other countries. We have more people. But you support my point when you say the France guy had Al Quaeda connections. Criminals will get the guns even when you have laws such as France to ban. The answer doesn't lie in banning guns obviously. And this comes from someone who despises guns. :smt102

Look at Finland. Third in the world for amount of firearms per capita vs killings with guns. Of course per capita on amount of guns in a country is misleading as most gun people have numerous guns therefore it leaves the greater part of the population without as it is here.

Forgot to add the Columbine High School killers also had bombs with them. So either way they planned to cause mass destruction.

I also support free speech here even though there are times I want to stick a sock in peoples mouths.

Norway too, has strict gum laws..heavily regulated. Didn't stop Anders Breivik slaughtering 68 youth campers :( . Only another gun was able to finally stop him and his massacre.
