I think the key-word with your team-mates was "square up" and fight...afterwards. Keep in mind, even locker-room altercations have led to arrests also. It's public information. And you don't need a brick to inflict damage. Fists work real good. Remember when Romanowski viciously assaulted and broke the bones of his team-mate's eye-socket during practice, which destroyed William's future NFL career? Just because a sport involves contact, there is still a level of decorum to be expected. I mean, even MMA fighters or boxers don't go around head-butting or biting ears off. .....wait
no....but they still ground and pound with sharp elbows, which are IMO worst than a headbutt. I vividly remember David Louisseau's face literally become a mangled, insanely swolen mess after taking repeated elbow strikes from Rich 'Ace' Franklin. He looked like a freakshow after the match
Yeah, I talked to him; unfortunately, he had anxiety issues. Don't know if he's still battling with it I'll remember him by this though
every time I get the urge to go inside a cage, I remind myself how dangerous that shit can be grappling is one thing...elbows to the face are another, lol
definitely dont know if the rewards of an amateur fight are worth the risk ive had new guys join the MMA academy telling me their outline and what they planned on doing after they learn jiu jitsu, and MMA fighting is generally what they aspire for. Id advise them to watch that franklin/david fight..or just about any fight with evan tanner or Marcus Davis
I'd suggest a kid take up wrestling as a base- along with BJJ and the different striking disciplines to complement of course- given the rules that are in place(and the cage), with good wrasslin ability, you can dictate where the fight goes
Depends on the oppenant. An open hand heel strike from a guy who breaks bricks will fuck your whole shit. Most fights might end up on the ground but they all start on your feet.
everyone has a plan until they're hit in the face as that famous saying goes...punch a black belt in BJJ, and he becomes a brown belt.... punch him again, he becomes a purple lol
problem with training straight jiu jitsu, is that when you roll during sparring you're not really compensating for strikes. you may drill it, but with living, 5minute round sparring, i have yet to encounter that with MMA-focused training, you begin to become more versed. Instead of just sitting on your back looking for a sweep or triangle, you're looking for those but also looking to defend from punches.
oh yeah...im plugging MMA again but..i seriously recommend anyone just trying BJJ.. lots of schools have free trials and all...it's not as homosexual-erotic as u may think
An open hand heel strike? Guys like GSP are seamless at transitioning from striking to wrestling, guys like him can set up takedowns with their strikes or their opponents strikes-get em to open the hips- basically they limit a great striker's options. Having great MMA wrestling is a useful skill to possess. the cage helps as well, they can push their opponent against it, unlike in the ring of course, it isn't fool proof. A great striker may control distance and the wrestler may not be able get in range for a shot, or the wrestler is so rudimentary with his striking he can't to set up a shot with strikes at all A sub grappler/bjj'er may mitigate the wrestlers control and submit the fuck out of em-A striker with good takedown defense can force them to stand and knock the fuck out of em.
open hand palm strike perhaps i havent seen those since UFC 1 or 2, when karate guys ACTUALLY did karate. You'd see ridge-hands, axe kicks, cartwheels, palm strikes... back when MMA just meant your style vs my style basically
