Looks like America might fall off the cliff by time we become the next generation of middle class Americans. I'm worried about the future. Sounds like we won't have a future that was as good as our parents` was.

you don't need a degree in some cases, but if you want to measure general education(math, sciences, etc), america consistently falls behind.

i heard Asian kids are doing calculus in the 8th grade:smt006

8th grade, american mothafuckas are still trying to do their multiplication tables

late edit - sadly the purpose of education has been bastardized and misconstrued, leaving people to only go after it if it yields more money. so many people have lost the whole idea of seeking out knowledge, just to know more and understand how the world works.

Yeah, my Chinese buddy told me about the stuff they learn in high school which--in some cases--is the equivalent of what we learn in college.

    it's sad really

BUT..to counteract this, I remember my grade school offering algebra I to it's top 8th grade students, at the neighboring high school. It was a new program, but if you passed it, you ended up taking elementary functions or geometry when you entered the HS you ended up at, as a freshman. I don't know what the hell is going on now, but people were/are aware that it's time to step that math game up.

math is very important in the science/tech field, so the sooner we expose kids to higher levels of it, the better.

if that doesnt wake you up, i dont know what the hell will

its not our fault either..it's the way this country is set up

many jobs are only open to graduates with certain degrees, so instead of going to school to learn and be a bright individual, you go so you can have a better shot at getting a good paying job

even then, that's not guaranteed...which is why so many people are angry when they graduate and cant get a job

doesn't the fact that you learned all this shit period, mean anything to you?

Knowledge is power and without that particular power we end up with the fucked up position that we currently find ourselves being in in this country, especially when you have mofos running for the top spot in the country saying education is a bad thing and fools buying into it.

    lmao

i hope no one is saying that..considering a good number of those assholes are college grads..ivy league too

    :smt119

ud think they'd take education, in any way shape or form, to be something of value

Shit, that fool Santorum was all but saying you should home school your kids and not let them to college a while back. Sounds like someone trying to advocate for keeping the masses ignorant in order to pull all kinds of bullshit down the road, but that's just me....

    ur too smart mothafucka

    watch yourself

    :D

straight up tho..that's the only way to keep running dum-dum games...find a way to get people to believe that awakening their minds is a BAD thing. Politicians are liars and crooks after all, lol

Not when you're 50k in debt. They won't make school more affordable since it oversaturates the market making degrees less attractive. Microeconomics 202. As demand rises so must the price to ward off scarcity. So its a mad dash to get your degree as quick as possible. The chick I'm seeing did college in three years for that reason. Take 20 credits a semester and you're done in three years. I wish I was more focused when I was in my early 20s. Had I just stayed education minded I would two Phds right now and either a tenured professorship coming or 200k a year salary. I could kick myself right now smdh. Moral of the story stay in school people. Make yourself as valuable as you can possibly afford.

    well yeah

college degrees are becoming the 'standard' now..much the same way the HS diploma did

during the earlier 1900s, diplomas were like gold...only obtained by people that were well-off.....then of course, as time went on, the diploma became the standard for everyone, and college was like 'omgwtfbbq'

I just read something about more and more PhDs looking to teach at community colleges now, due to their usual markets being too full

Yeah its crazy out there. Truthfully for me all I need is 40k and a rent controlled apt to feel happy and secure but I unfortunately really want a family and I like pretty women so its either 120k a year with a bonus or I better start slinging that dope. Kind of wish I went to medical school even though doctors are getting paid shit too now. My friend works at a private practice and they're paying a GP 60k a year and they won't provide malpractice insurance. Granted the GP only works 3 days a week but Its crazy to think you'll probably hear doctors talk about going to their second job soon. I don't know how we're going to restore the standard of living in this country but something needs to happen soon

add on 2 more days and he would be making 100k

    look at it that way:cool:

u have to take into consideration if you would be able to live comfortably, with a fraction of your earnings as well. you never know when disability may strike, and could find yourself making 60-70percent of what you used to make. You definitely have to look at your life and survival from multiple angles. 40-50k a year may seem alright for a single person, but what if you only came away with 60 percent of that? see how that could mess your shit up.

i've been living on my own for a long time now, and really have nowhere else to go if this ship goes tits up. I bat around shit like this frequently and use it as one of my motivations to keep going up as far as i can, while the going is good.

never become complacent if you could be doing more

Point well made my friend. I think I might go back in to accounting and get my CPA and just do grad part time. I really need to save more plus the funny thing about finding a chick you like is you actually want to part with some chips to do shit lol.

The Asians are going to clean our clock. Those who are immigrating here are so far advanced than the average american who are still in the mindset of the 1950's.

i remember reading about the H1-Bs and technology firms like Microsoft, that want the government to extend their quotas, so that they can stay competitive in the world market. they even went as far as saying that there weren't enough 'qualified' americans to fill those jobs. I wouldn't doubt it at all. Our kids REALLY are our future, and if this anti-college/anti-education shit is real, America is going to collapse.

classism all day. santorum stated that obama was a snob because he wanted everyone to get a degree. santorum is an idiot and the people who votes for him. the culture of america is all fucked up when it comes to education. in other contries they are in school 20 to 30% longer than us..meaning they are in year round school or the summer vacations are shorter. also they will cut back on education on all levels (rite now the GOP are trying to reduce pell grants and student loans. damn damn damn) but they states will fund the building of a sporting arena (football stadium or basketball or a golf course or whatever)and that money could have went to hiring more teachers and keeping the school going longer to compete. that shit is ass backwards
