Why are welfare recipients shameful? And Southerners??

That piece showed able-bodied New Yorkers saying they didn't want to work, they just wanted free money and food stamps.

Not because of their economic or geographical status, I was just using the terms to identify the two groups present in the clip. They are shameful for their sloth and ignorance. If they were thoughtful, intelligent folks, I wouldn't be saying this, regardless of their financial condition or location. I was just trying to say that the attitudes that both groups express in the clip are distasteful.

Sorry, Bliss, I was referring to the entire clip (I saw it on TV), where Alexandra Pelosi interviews uninformed southern US natives expressing racist and uninformed views as the motivation for their voting choices, and it's then followed by the lazy NYC-ers. She was being balanced by showing both sides.

Ah, got it and noted. I see now why you referenced it. I noticed too one of the New Yorker's voting choice was motivated by race as well.

What's to defend, the majority of people on food stamps are white folk. Of course you are going to get a lot of ignorant black folks who are camera hogs to get their 15 minutes of fame.

Some of the people we seen on the Pelosi video most likely have limited education or have criminal background that prevents them getting any jobs.

    I mean "jobs" not "career".

If something ever happens to me I am glad there are safety nets like unemployment or food stamps to get me back on my feet.

Agreed. I just kept shaking my head at the rural guys who were against their own economic interests. By the same token, the cause for a social safety net isn't helped by the NYC residents blatantly talking about abusing the programs. There will always be abuses, but it just feeds into negative stereotypes.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. That is exactly what it is there for.

What does the color of any food stamps recipients have to do with this video? This was not about those who receive stamps - it was about recipients who abuse the system. That is what you cannot defend.

Having a limited educational background or a criminal record does not automatically parlay one to become a system abuser, nor does it excuse the behavior if one does. If those circumstances prevented them from getting a job, then the system is legitimately there to help them.
However the people showed - except for the ex-con - did not identify that was the reason why they were there. One guy even demonstrated how he liked his free money/options laid our for him like he was 'shopping". Another cited he was riding the backs of his "ancestors" so he deserved it.

Obviously they are a small number of the abusers country-wide, but it's dismaying to a working taxpayer, I'm sure.

Sometimes people won't comment again if they did in another thread. Didn't want you to think no one was commenting.

Iggy,Ms.Pelosi at least gave some reason why those jokers want their welfare. She has guts to record it unlike conservatives like Mr.O'Keefe and that stupid pimp costume and working for the late Breitbart.

I fully support the idea of drug and alcohol testing for all welfare recipients. Oh and free birth control too.

Better yet, let's educate them too (if they've not already done so for themselves) so they might become critical thinkers and perhaps develop a desire to better themselves and their situations.

See thats the thing though. These idiots in the video aren't looking to "get back on their feet". And thats the problem right there

That's a straw-man argument, you have no proof that the percentages would hold up if the Black population was greater. Greater numbers equals more political clout which could very easily lead to more opportunities/less obstacles for Black people, the percentage could very easily decrease. Bottom line, the majority of welfare dollars present day goes into white hands.
