I read that elsewhere. That is terrible. Hard to imagine a fit sports player having a heart attack. :(

Unfortunately it happens more than you can imagine. I remember back in 2003 watching Marc Vivien Foe Collapse in the football field and later die in the hospital. Since then there have been at least five or more incidences of players collapsing and dying on the field. The footage of most of this sad incidences is on youtube.

Football (soccer) fans usually get a bad rap some deservedly and others not, but today the Spurs and Bolton fans really showed maturity and respect in how they reacted. The quick reaction from both set of players and the response of the medical staff could be used for training purposes.

Sky news is now reporting that he's in a stable condition. That is a good sign cause in all the other recent similar incidences the outcome has not being good. Hope he recovers.

I know.....it's curious. I wonder if some have undiagnosed issues and then the stress causes a problem.

Most of the cases are undiagnosed issues that finally cannot take the high intensity stress. Italian clubs are known for being very thorough in checking the players for any kinds of health defects. A Nigerian player by the name Nwankwo Kanu was diagnosed with having a weak aorta by an Italian Club, after he had been cleared by a couple of other clubs in Europe. He underwent surgery and still plays today at the age of 36, more than 15 years after the surgery. So improved medical checkups is crucial to catch this kinds of defects.

That is someone who is mentally and emotionally sick. Emotionally ignore those kinds of comments because they will have a negative effect on you while the poster is having his own kind of sick fun.

FIFA to study cardiac arrest cases in soccer
ZURICH — FIFA will be studying cardiac arrest cases involving soccer players to learn what caused Bolton's Fabrice Muamba to collapse during a match.

FIFA's chief medical officer says the project will be advanced at FIFA's medical conference on May 23-24 in Budapest, Hungary.

Jiri Dvorak tells The Associated Press all national team doctors have been invited. The hope is to establish a worldwide database for cases of sudden cardiac arrest. Dvorak says the research will lead to "analysis of the risk factors."

FIFA also helped complete a recent study in Gabon of electrocardiogram testing in African players. Muamba was born in Zaire.

Muamba is in serious but stable condition in a London hospital.
