To an old, fat, man with all of two inches? Sorry. I couldn't help it. I hope he gets held accountable for this. The kid is dead at his hands and just because he's got friends on the inside (the police chief seems awfully smoochy if you ask me) shouldn't automatically mean he should get away without even an investigation. He shouldn't get away period. And I hope that if he does some of Florida will put the heat on.
They won't especially in Florida. Times like this I truly wish there were vigilantes who fought for justice because I'm sick to my stomach of seeing children murdered and the assholes getting away with it. Guess its a great indication of how this country still sees black people. When even our children aren't safe from unjustified homicide what does that say.

He was only 17 years-old. Trayvon's killer, George Zimmerman, admitted to police that he shot Trayvon in the chest. Zimmerman, the community's self appointed "neighborhood watch leader," called the police to report a suspicious person when he saw Travyon, a young black man, walking from the store. But Zimmerman still hasn't been charged for murdering my son. Trayvon was my hero. At the age 9, Trayvon pulled his father from a burning kitchen, saving his life. He loved sports and horseback riding. At only 17 he had a bright future ahead of him with dreams of attending college and becoming an aviation mechanic. Now that’s all gone. When Zimmerman reported Trayvon to the police, they told him not to confront him. But he did anyway. All I know about what happened next is that my 17 year-old son, who was completely unarmed, was shot and killed. It's been nearly two weeks and the Sanford Police have refused to arrest George Zimmerman. In their public statements, they even go so far as to stand up for the killer - saying he's "a college grad" who took a class in criminal justice. Please join me in calling on Norman Wolfinger, Florida's 18th District State's Attorney, to investigate my son's murder and prosecute George Zimmerman for the shooting and killing of Trayvon Martin.
His neighbors are speaking out about complaining about him to police before about him being agressive. I don't see how they can ignore these things. They are in their face. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/12/george-zimmerman-trayvon-martin_n_1340358.html A volunteer community watch captain who shot an unarmed Florida teenager to death last month had been the subject of complaints by neighbors in his gated community for aggressive tactics, a homeowner said. George Zimmerman has not been charged in the Feb. 26 shooting of Trayvon Martin, 17, who was walking home from a convenience store in Sanford, Fla., near Orlando. Zimmerman, who patrolled the Retreat at Twin Lakes development in his own car, had been called aggressive in earlier complaints to the local police and the homeowner's association, according to a homeowner who spoke on the condition of anonymity. At an emergency homeowner’s association meeting on March 1, “one man was escorted out because he openly expressed his frustration because he had previously contacted the Sanford Police Department about Zimmerman approaching him and even coming to his home,” the resident wrote in an email to HuffPost. “It was also made known that there had been several complaints about George Zimmerman and his tactics" in his neighborhood watch captain role.
Agreed. He was told not to pursue the kid, but he felt the need to defend himself? If he had obeyed the order not to pursue, there would have been no need defend himself and the young man would still be alive. Some of these watch captains are too gung ho.
No matter the punishment that poor family lost their child. Its too fucking sad for words. And people wonder why black people as a whole never trust the police. I know there are good ones out there but any person with the slightest decency should boycott their job on principle alone on this one. He was an unarmed kid and they're sitting on their hands on this one? Just sad.
Is it that blue wall of silence thing? I tend to want to fight you on most of your "if this was a black dude" stuff. But in this case, seeing how they are protecting their own kind..I'd have to agree. Makes me wonder how different it would have been if it was a black cop that didn't live in a gated community, wasn't a menance to society as a whole, and hadnt taken a criminal justice class. Seriously? One class? Geez
That shouldn't matter one bit, and I wouldn't even go so far as to say the cops were protecting "one of their own kind." He was a "self-appointed" neighborhood watch captain, for crying out loud. I watched a show about neighborhood watches and they are always told not to pursue a suspect but to report it and let the police handle it. In fact, in the show I saw, the watch volunteers were armed with walkie talkies and that's it. People who know Zimmerman need to keep speaking out. Hopefully, with the public outcry, the cops will be forced to do something. Unless there's more to this story than is being published, Trayvon is innocent and Zimmerman had no reason to shoot him, much less shoot to kill. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be his mother, not only losing her son, but then watching his killer go free.
That's the worst part of this entire thing. Since when do we need public out cry to convict a child killer of wrong doing? And you people wonder why I am so outspoken on topics of the system and black people. Down right disgusting. That boy's family deserves justice.
You're right, we SHOULDN'T need public outcry. But this guy is being protected and it seems the only way things are going to change is if the public keeps bringing stuff to light that puts Zimmerman in the hot seat. Again, unless there's more to this story that's not being published, he's guilty. I get on you sometimes because, imo, you look for trouble where there is none, but in this instance, I believe you're spot on. Sadly. You can't work it any other way and have it make sense.
More on the case: It seems that George Zimmerman's dad is making a plea for calm in this case. He submitted a letter to the Orlando Sentinanal proclaiming how his son is not racist and has many black family members. He is also claiming that the media is sensationalizing the story and making his son out to be some kind of monster. Statement of Robert Zimmerman in its entirety "The tragic events of February 26 are very sad for all concerned. The Martin family, our family, and the entire community have been forever changed. The portrayal of George Zimmerman in the media, as well as the series of events that lead to the tragic shooting are false and extremely misleading. Unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have used this tragedy to further their own causes and agendas. George is a Spanish speaking minority with many black family members and friends. He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. One black neighbor recently interviewed said she knew everything in the media was untrue and that she would trust George with her life. Another black neighbor said that George was the only one, black or white, who came and welcomed her to the community, offering any assistance he could provide. Recently, I met two black children George invited to a social event. I asked where they met George. They responded that he was their mentor. They said George visited them routinely, took them places, helped them, and taught them things and that they really loved George. The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth. The events of February 26 reported in the media are also totally inaccurate. Out of respect for the on-going investigation, I will not discuss specifics. However, the media reports of the events are imaginary at best. At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin. When the true details of the event become public, and I hope that will be soon, everyone should be outraged by the treatment of George Zimmerman in the media. Our entire family is deeply sorry for the loss of Trayvon. We pray for the Martin family daily. We also pray that the community will grieve together and not be divided by more unwarranted hate. Robert Zimmerman The Zimmerman family will have no further contact with the media prior to the resolution of the investigation. It would be greatly appreciated if the media would respect our privacy."
Co-sign! In any other city, Zimmerman's failure to follow the instruction to "back", would gotten him arrested for interfering in police business and made him culpable to some degree of premeditation for the events that followed.
Reading the father's statement makes my blood boil... Let Dad tell it, and George is next in line to be pope... Trying to prove his son is not racist by mentioning that George is a Spanish speaking minority with black family members and insinuating that George had a black neighbor who "praised" him.... etc.... WTF????? Maybe George has had some black neighbors come forward and defend his character and those neighbors' supportive statements just haven't made media headlines... Reading through the exoneration fodder, I liken the father's statement to that cliche "I can't be racist. I know a lot of blacks"... In dad's eyes, his son is in line for sainthood - the patron saint of black people.... :smt070 The most disturbing part of his statement can only mean that Trayvon followed and attacked George, if you let the father bend the truth.... This tragic incident screams for justice, something that isn't available to "just us"...
