I only use google to search. LOL so that is my only concern. They have too many privacy problems to trust.

Funny event happened with either target or macy's. A dad got mail sent to his teen daughter about pregnancy. He was outraged about it. SO much that he went to the company to complain. A couple of days later, he sent an apology back stating that he was wrong about it and that she will be having a baby soon. Now what is so funny or scary about it. It turns out that the company has tracked what pregnant women are likely to buy and send magazines to them. That's right the company knew before the dad did. Had there been privacy policies they wouldn't know. It is a bit out of hand.

Well, I'm old. Don't even remember what I ate for breakfast this morning!

I do remember the article tho. I have Verizon and they insist that their phones don't have this software installed.

I read that story..crazy, huh...and get this..as a result of it....so you won't freak out that they are tracking you, Target now put the pampers and babyfood coupons next to things you wont need, like a leaf blower and shaving cream for example, ...but they are still guesstimating your due date which is why you get the coupon book in the first place.

The sad thing is we barely have people in congress that understand the potential to come from this. It is going to get ugly.

I heard about that carrier IQ stuff a while back. I think there is a way to get rid of it but, I don't remember how. I'm on Verizon also and they are pretty strict about things (sometimes too strict but, that's another story).

I have a Galaxy Nexus and, have had previous nexus phones. These phones , from my understanding are not affected by carrier IQ (I'm not totally sure about this) . It affects phones that are are what we Geeks call "skinned" They have the manufacture UI installed. This is done to make the phone more easier to use for most people vs. a pure Google phone like the Nexus.

I guess nothing is totally secure now-a-days.

I don't use google search that often but got gmail account. If I log off my gmail account and go to yahoo search engine, are they still able to track?

With all the BS privacy issue gmail is trying to cross us over I am thinking about closing my acct, but I have so much contact info and enjoy the gmail and google voice, sigh....... should I just stick to hotmail or yahoo mail?? Any suggestion, any other good free email accts that you would recmd??

    Thanx

Is Google connected to Photobucket? I had a weird thing happen today. I did what this thread recommended and went in and "paused" my web history. I tried to go into my PB account and couldn't access it either on my phone or my computer. On a whim, I went into my phone and logged into my gmail account (I also cleaned out my cache & cookies) and voila! I could log into my PB account in both places.

It was very weird. I could access PB yesterday, no problem. All of a sudden, today I couldn't get in. Even wrote to their customer support and had to give them all kinds of info right down to my mother's cousin's boyfriend's middle name, just to identify my account. I don't know what I did that "unlocked" it but now I can access it. Just thought it was really coincidental that today was the day this whole Google thing was going down.
