If teachers got paid about 20K more a year you'd see more men pursue teaching as a career.

But unfortunately many men stereotypically rank teaching right up there with nursing. Valuable jobs that are critical services but aren't considered 'masculine' enough for many men.

That's unfortunate. I view the idea of helping minds to develop and learn to think critically as one of the greatest honors.

I don't think it has as much to do with the feminine masculine thing as it does being able to support a family on that salary. Teacher make shit money unless you're in the nice suburbs.

    Oh yes it does.

Because the majority in that field are women, you have a lot of females who are very emasculating, can't wait to cut a man down to show she is superior. Think about the reason you are at this site.

You know how at some black sites, the black women can be very aggressive and pushy. I can bet there are black sites you won't go to specifically for that reason.

Just think if that kind of women is CONSTANTLY in your face daily. Be honest, you know how pushy some women are. This is why I like masculine jobs, women are not even allowed in COMBAT special forces.

Mathematics and engineering are the other things I like. Not that you don't have females in those fields, you don't have female DRAMA QUEENS.

Maybe they should be. A female unit, all PMS'ing at the same time? Formidable. We have weapons unknown to man, er men.

Damn and they call me a chauvinist lol.
I think if the pay was more there would be more men but to be real I do prefer not work around women. As a group they are entirely too sensitive and always demand unearned respect. It gets way too tiresome to put up with. And before any of you hens complain think about how many of you actually like being around other women. That's one thing I hear across the board "I hate girls they're too catty"

That may be true but we don't tend to hold grudges and ruin lives.
Guys fight its over with a few punches women are enemies with each other for life.

When I left the military (with Masters' degrees in Physics and Math), I tried to go into teaching under a program supposedly designed for ex-GI's...

I already had teaching credentials as that was my dream of giving back to inner city youth who faced the challenges I faced, but after 6 months of waiting, I could only manage to get offers as a substitute teacher in Wyoming or Montana. Max salary: $13.00/hr for 20 hours maximum per week and no benefits...

It's a multifaceted problem. Education has become a business rather than an inherent necessity... University costs continual to skyrocket with no check or balance and fly by night schools flood the airwaves with promises.... Teaching credentials and requirements vary from state to state... State and local governments have not been able to manage school budgets without drastic measures and there are "teachers" who don't deserve to be standing in front of an x-ray machine, let alone a classroom of young minds....

Here's part of a national problem....

    http://www.npr.org/2012/02/25/147393076/saving-kansas-city-schools-means-rescuing-a-city

Schools failing to meet state established standards, administrators protecting the status quo, insufficient funding.... The list goes on...

Everyone involved in education seem to be entrenched on one side of a fence or the other, while children suffer...

No easy answers, but there are plenty of questions that go unanswered....

    Go figure....

Isn't that the truth! I'm attracted by the prospect of teaching at a community college part-time because I like the idea of providing an education at an affordable rate. I went to a big state university for undergrad and then private universities for grad school and the debt is crushing. I'll be paying those guys until I take my dirt nap. If I had known then what I know now, I would have done my first two years of undergrad at a community college.

teachers salaries aren't as low as one might think if you take into consideration that they get approx 16 weeks off a year...plus lots of 3 and 4 day weekends...most teachers have a summer job that can easily add another 15k onto their annual earning...

Maybe this factors into the base pay?

Its a good point when you consider that many more occupations are more labor intensive and far less time off and pay way less.

People make a big deal about they need to be paid more but lets face it..edumacation is NOT America's number one priority.

Here in Hawaii there is big hakakas because they've introduced legislation to randomly drug test teachers. Of course hsta is all up in arms over it but fuck if I want an ice addict spending 8 hours a day in a classroom with my kid.

That depends on your definition of what a man is. In certain units, you have the strong, discipline type, the type of men I like being around. There are no such a thing as drama kings in those units ..... period.

    Girly men don't even apply.

I think for the education required to teach they don't get paid much. You need a masters here in NY and at least one year of student teaching to make 43k a year in one of the most expensive areas in the world, where rent is commonly 1200 a month not to mention you have to pay state federal and city tax and union dues and insurance. The take home ain't that much and while they do get a lot of days off I don't think it compensates for the instability you go through for the summer. Its really hard to look for and interview for a job when your work hours are 7 to 3 everyday. Like I said for all the professions that require an advanced degree teachers get paid the least by far and we're suppose to be entrusting them to guide the future doctors and engineers of tomorrow. Seems a little messed up.

You best believe, the teachers that get REAL results from their students are compensated well. But the teaching field as a whole use to be the catch all for people who couldn't make it in other fields.

Social Work or education, the McDonalds for people with degrees. That use to be the phrase people would say in college.
