Good for you! Now if you are super obese losing 5lbs a week is healthy but for those that weigh less, I feel that 3lbs a week is more realistic. Remember the majority of your initial weight loss is water weight.

I guess I should post a update. I'm not on the Akins diet anymore and gained weight back to around 211 Lbs.. I know I may get blasted for trying different things but, I'm on the Nutrasystem diet now.

This diet seems to be working much better for me and it's very convenient. It teaching me portion control, what type of foods to eat (good and bad carbs) and, is similar to a diet I did years ago except the main food is already prepared. I've already lost 4Lbs.this week.

They also have a very nice forum with others on the diet, which provides great support. Some of the food is good, some not so good. When I get to my goal, the challenge will be keeping it off.

Let me know how that works out bro. I was thinking of doing that. Lately I've just added veggies to my diet. For every piece of fruit I eat three veggies and for every piece of meat I eat two. I have way more energy than I've had in year. My only vice is chips right now. I have to find a replacement for that then I'm golden.

I will let you know. On this diet you eat alot of vegatables and fruits also and that's what I like about it.

I think if one plan doesn't work for you, there is nothing wrong with trying different ways of eating to find what's best for your lifestyle, your food tastes and your weight loss needs. What works great for one person, may totally fail for you and vice versa.

I was on Nutrasystem many years ago and the food was...well, let's just say it left alot to be desired! Hopefully, the food has improved. Personally, I think the South Beach diet is healthier than Atkins. I'm not really following a plan, just eliminating carbs and focusing on veggies, low-glycemic fruits and protein. Even with that, still struggling to keep blood sugars under control. Oy.

Good luck, Qnet and keep us updated!

Some of the food is good and some not as good. I kind of figured that going in.

Yes you did and you were right.

    Thank you both.

You were absolutely right! I really like this program (Nutrasystem). The first week I lost 4 Lbs. and the next I only lost 1. Every since then I've been losing 3 Lbs. a week. It's really motivating.

I bought a new digital scale and it showed me how much I really weighed. I was kind of down about it but, at least I know it's more accurate. I tried to go back and change my starting weight but, the Nutrasystem website won't let you do it. It shows me losing 8.5 Lbs. when I've actually lost about 11.5 lbs. I knew it was working because my jeans are fitting looser. I'm feeling better also. :)

If I continue losing 12 lbs. a month I'll be at my goal in a few months, hopefully by the end of spring or early summer. The Nutrasystem forum is really helpful because, you meet people who are in similar situations. Some people lose 10 Lbs a week and some only 1-2. I have noticed that people with more weight to lose, often lose more per week.

    Keep going!

My close friend also recently started Nutrisystem. She released/discarded 8 pds her first 10 days. Will call and see how she's doing. ('lost' is mentality counter-productive, lol..we instinctively want to find what we lose, haha)

    That's not a bad idea.

Thank you. It's definitely working and I don't doubt I'll reach my goal. Maintaining it will be the challenge. I've been going to the gym four days every week and that helps.

I don't mind. Although it may be better when I actually reach my goal. I was going to wait until I had lost more weight but, was excited about how things were going.

That's an understatement. That's the secret to fitness: better eating and increased activity. You're on your way now! That's great to hear!

This thread is funny, it started out talking about the Akins diet now it's Nutrasytem and overall health, which is cool.

I just wanted to bump it and give a update. I've dropped about 25 pounds since January. I'm feeling a lot better and people are noticing my weight loss. I started at 210 and now I'm down to 185.

My pants are fitting loser and I have to have a belt with all of them. I've bought a few new clothes but, I'm holding off until I reach my goal weight before I buy more.

I've slipped up a few time with my eating but, for the most part have stayed on the program pretty good. I will just be glad when I reach my goal so that I can get off this processed food. Thank you all for you advice, it was much appreciated.
