The census does not have Hispanic as a race. Its is considered and origin question. Therefore those who identify as Hispanic also must identify their race. This fact alone accounted for the surge in White population numbers, derived from the largest increase in our population - over 15 million Hispanics (since the last census)

Similarly, a bi-racial person if the chose to, may pick both races on the census form, so officially at least to the census, there is no one drop rule..

Speaking for myself only, but these points are exactly what most people here IMO and observation are trying to illustrate whenever we talk about bi-racial children. Ideally any parent raising bi-racial children should expose them to both sides of their heritage so that the child/children should not see themselves as one or the other but be comfortable as both. But the reality is that doesn't always happen due to either a combination of personal circumstances and the race perception issues of American society, especially if there is unfortunately only one parent present raising said child/children.

    what?

they do that out of respect of their family..calling themselves biracial. why should they call themselves black and exclude their white family, because it make us feel better...fuck that. we called them black because we see black they see biracial. as one biracial person did say however " ia m what I have to defend". when tiger called himself whatever it was ..black folks got mad. he responded "Im not going to reject my mother. if I call myself black Im rejecting my mother" . Im not going to dictate a biracial child to say he is what I want him to be and nor should society.
I believe obama calls himself biracial. as a matter of fact he went to scottland or ireland to visit his moms side of the family and see where they (he) are/is from.

He actually refers to himself as Black/African-American. Which is also what he put on the census. But he does acknowledge his other side.

As both TDK & Tam have already pointed out,he's adamant about not being identified as "Black" yet he's on a forum geared towards White Women/Black Men and then throws out a statement that says for all intents and purposes "Black people have victim mentalities". Might just be me but : RED FLAG: Someone seems to have issues with Black people.

I'm with you. Other than a brief refueling and overnight in Atlanta, I don't stop until I hit Orlando.

As far as the one-drop rule issue: it's not an aspect of the Census, but it IS responsible for the US majority's social perception. And we know that social convention and racism, not sound science, is the impetus behind the US and the world's stupidity with regard to race.

It's nothing new at all. That's just the social zeitgeist. Interracial relationships and marriages will continue to be on the rise with every new generation. Social progression is inevitable. However, I would argue that despite this revelation, there are still people tethered to the idea of "taking sides" by labeling oneself as one social construct or another. So, even if everyone just turn into "one color" you'll have factions and discrimination of sorts reminiscent of the brown paper bag test and other physiological concerns.

Damn he looks so much younger there, and it was only 3 years ago. That "The Presidency ages you" adage is so true.
