Personally I think those so hell bent on being called "mixed" is just a way to further themselves from being black. Much like Latin America. Interestingly those who push the issue the most on this forum are usually from there.

    Is your son's dad around?

Same for me. They can feel free to identify with whatever part of their heritage the so wish. It doesn't change them a a person or individual to me. People are who they are.

so obama is president therefore he is black but in another thread you were very adament that mariah (marcia) carey is mixed...which is it...do you not realize that as you jump from thread to thread you contradict yourself all the time...no i am not going to say some of the time ALL of the time:smt102take a stance and stick with it...

First off if you're not intelligent enough to know that Marcia was obviously autocorrect since Mariah isn't popular don't address me.

I pointed out Mariah being biracial in that other thread to illustrate the ridiculous nature of being so literal and feeling the need to point out someone's heritage or race when speaking of their accomplishments which we only do for minorities by the way. Never heard Adele being called the most white anything or Michael Phelps being a great white anything, they were just great at what they did. No need for them to be a credit to the white race.

The concept of context is really lost on you huh slow poke.

Maybe, but then again, maybe not. I'm not going to presume that's the case when I'm not privy to their personal thoughts & feelings most of the time.

No. He said he had too much going for him to be a dad.

I understand why due to historical reason the offspring of interracial relationship in the US are considered black. In Kenya offspring of interracial are called point 5 or pointee. They are considered white in rural areas but in the big cities they are pointee's and usually have the cool factor going for them.

In the Kenyan context point 5 or pointee is never taken in a derogatory way.

If they identify as white then that's their business and perfectly fine. Whether society sees and treats them as white is something else entirely. Same with Hispanic.

I mean look at the flip side in some Latin American countries. Where you'll find people as Black as you and me, yet they have multiple racial classifications just to keep from being labeled "Black/Negro"

And that's how I see the biracial labeling but to each his own. Hopefully those who choose to go against the status quo won't suffer for it.

I am mixed myself, but most of this country is going to treat me as though I am black. As a result of wanting to fit in most mixed people (eg Barrack Obama) Just throw in the towel, and accept Americas ridiculous 1 drop rule. Really Obamas mom is clearly white. I identify strongly as mixed. But the fact is mixed people are treated as black.

Really though I find it retarded that many black people are subscribing to Jim Crow logic. Basically the one drop rule was made because there were plenty of mixed up slaves so it was ruled that 1 drop of black blood made you black. As a result those who could pass for white just shut their mouth and said they were white (Just like most of them do today.) Believe it or not if we were to apply the full throttle jim crow logic America has less white people then you thought.

Also its a plain fact that many jews, Italians, and greeks have black/arabic admixture. When the double standard of the one drop rule starts being applied to people who look white I will actually take it seriously. But lets face it America is racially retarded, and as a result we cant even admit that people are people.

    1. Why & how do you come to the conclusion that Obama "threw in the towel" and just went along with being identified as Black? As has already been stated in this thread what if he just relates better to the Black side of his parentage than his White side? Because he was raised by his White mother & grand parents that means he shouldn't relate to his Black side even if his father wasn't around?

    2. Why is it that you say Black people are the ones "subscribing to Jim Crow logic" but then you point out that if most people of bi-racial heritage could pass White they probably would? So it's okay if people of bi-racial heritage identify as White but if they chose to identify as Black it's wrong? That's what I'm kind of getting from both you and from Tropolis, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've also found it very irritating how individuals act like Black Americans are the only ones who buy into and act on the one drop rule. Hell they act like we created it for our benefit or something. And as far as Obama is concerned I didn't even hear people talking about him being "mixed"/"biracial"/"not REALLY Black" until it looked like he was about to lock up the nomination. Before that as far as most people seemed concerned he was "Black". But I've spoken on that before.

Obama is a wise politician also he knows most people/media will see him as black so he ascribes to it. As far as #2 that is also equally retarded. Really in my opinion biracial people identifying as anything other then mixed is inaccurate, and lying. I think mixed people should just embrace what they are a hybrid of cultures. Really to be honest people who deny what they are genetically are fake in my opinion.

Unfortunately most Americans buy into, and act on the one drop rule. I have always said dude was mixed. This idea that someone can have parents of two different races, and can then claim to be apart of one race is ignorant and stupid. Which Im sorry but most Americans are ignorant, and stupid when it comes to race. Especially when according to our census "Hispanic" is a race, and "Middle Easternets/people with north african origins" are considered white.

In what countries are the citizens more intelligent about "race" and how long did you live there?
