So why are you on this site? If you want black kids, marry a black woman. I'm mixed. I haven't been treated any different because I have a black father. I've never been excluded or denied anything any of my other peers have gotten. I haven't faced any problems with hiring or housing. Your problem is you still think this is 1960. Most people don't even care who or what you are anyways.
My kids will be black by default since their father is black. Please try and keep up. And since your experience is the only one that matters then fair enough.
While your at it, instill the victim mentality from day one and make sure they are lifelong democrats.
1. What victim mentality? 2. When did I ever claim to be a democrat? You feeling ok? Maybe you need to lie down
Really? We as a society look at transvestites as female? Whatever. This wasn't the purpose of this thread.
It's funny, but if you didn't know it, you wouldn't think Obama was mixed. Then you have someone like Vanessa Williams, who isn't mixed till like her great-grandparents or something and she looks more biracial. I don't think it's that simple to categorize. I do think people should label themselves how they see fit, but like TDK said, this is America and you will be viewed as Black. Now maybe if you looked like Halle Berry's daughter, then people would question your racial makeup, although, you can see the Black in her.
Exactly. Actually I think Vanessa Williams is biracial its just that both her parents are half and half. If you had to describe a person in trouble or describe someone that hurt you you're going to describe the closest match to the understood racial groups. Its as simple as that.
I watched her, "Who Do You Think You Are" episode, and if I'm not mistaken, her White lineage is further down the line. I respect Tropolis and how he wants to identify himself, cause he represents both of his parents, but in America, it's just not that simple. It would be cool if Biracials could have their own "race" so-to-speak.
You're probably right. Her parents live near mine and I've seen them at church a couple of times, not her though, and they both look biracial to me but I could be off. Truthfully I kind of fear the idea of a biracial race. Just another group to push people with my coloring even further into the ground. Its sad but so true.
Maybe you should ask yourself the same thing with the "logic" you're trying to throw at others. Why are you on this site? If you don't consider yourself black, then what sense does it make for you to be on a site for Black Men & White Women? It doesn't quite work when you look at if from that particular angle, does it? There are some folks who'd choose to be shitty about it say you're contradicting yourself & trying to have it both ways, & my guess is that's not what you're trying to do. Why be up in arms about "mixed" kids being seen as black...it's not like it's an insult to the child or to their parental heritage, & it doesn't take anything away from them either. Reality is that if you look black in this society, others will call you black, & if you have a black parent, most of society will call you black & will treat you accordingly. If your personal experience has been different that, good for you. Your experiences are what they are, & you're entitled to your own views about what you see yourself & what you preferred to be called, & no one is trying to take that away from you. In all fairness you should extend the same courtesy to others whose views & experiences are different from yours. Just like you have your reasons behind your personal views, so do other people. It's not fair for you to pass judgement just because you have a different POV. Peace.
Hahahaha, what utopia planet do you fucken live in? Wake me up when we reach there, I didn’t think there was a Disney land in twin cities, lol
Damn I gotta spread some rep around before I give it to you but hell of a post my friend. I would also like to add one thing I've always wondered about people who are so adiment about being referred to as mixed or biracial out of respect for their "heritage" would they feel the same way if they were refered to and treated like an ethnic white person like an Italian or a Greek person. Lord knows many biracial people are closer to "white" than a lot of Greeks and Italians.
Yeah, they definitely look biracial, but they married Black from the great-grandwhoever on down. I wish we didn't have separate categories/boxes or whatever, but this is America (and the world) and this is how things have been and will continue to be viewed. Maybe 2000 yrs from now, things will be different. I mean race-mixing has been going on for ages.
A lot less than 2000 years maybe as little as two generations away. One thing to keep in mind is I honestly thought my grand kids would be dead before we had a black president and low and behold look how wrong I was. Anything truly is possible.
If someone want to say they're Black then they basically can regardless. Obama calls himself Black. Which he can do. If he wanted to say he was mixed or Black AND mixed he could basically do that too. The point I'm making is it's pretty much his choice. I think it's something like 2/3 of biracial individuals with Black blood in this country identify as '"Black/African-American". I don't have any sources for that off-hand though so I could be mistaken or that stat might be outdated. I just always find it amusing how many people who hate the one-drop rule frequently follow the same reasoning behind it. Which is basically telling people how they should view themselves and how society should view them. "NO! You're NOT Black! You're MIXED!!" is apparently so much more of an enlightened mentality than "No! You're Not Mixed/White! You're BLACK!!" I'm just saying identify yourself however you want. Raise your kids to identify however you (but preferably THEY) want, and don't tell others how they, or their children, should and shouldn't identify. It's obnoxious, not to mention arrogant. Also I'm not accusing you of doing any of this TDK I'm just speaking in general.
That's even better! Well, like your infamous saying, "We make presidents and shit"....It's nice that we've been able to witness it....
I'll ask you the rhetorical question I asked Tam. What if a biracial person calls themselves white? Or hispanic since most hispanics are in fact "mixed" what's the protocol then? And btw I do hate the one drop rule but I also hate paying certain taxes but black ass goes along with the program.
Great post! That's how I label people. However someone wants to be called, is what I'll call them. Although in my head, I might think differently...lol
Huh? :smt017 Thanks, TDK. Interesting question. If they are truly sincere about "heritage" being the reason behind calling themselves mixed, then they wouldn't because they would see both sides of their heritage as equally important. Otherwise, basing it on heritage wouldn't make any sense IMO. What I think it boils down to for a lot of people is whoever they identify with the most is who they classify themselves as, & there are a multitude of personal reasons that could be behind it. My son has been seen as black since the day he was born (he sure couldn't pass for white, lol), & he has no issue with that at all. He's not been "brainwashed" & doesn't have a "victim mentality" just because people see him & he sees himself as black. Well said, Jase. :smt023
