lol if you can't get a degree between 18-22, when most kids aren't working and just doing college full-time, you just aren't trying. Hell, those mofos should be head of the class that's the way I see it, being in that boat of working 40hrs a week and school. The crazy thing was I added the jiu-jitsu on top of all that and my usual 3/4 x week strength/conditioning routines. I play the mind over matter role a lot. If you seriously try not to think about your schedule and how convoluted it is, it really won't matter. I never get down about doing so much because I try to worry about myself, and not what everyone else is doing. Once you start focusing on how easier other people have it, you'll lose that fighting spirit. Put your bootstraps on and play the hand you've been dealt. You'll graduate in no time I also like to remind myself that the alternative to work/school, is just work. Either i'll be 40 with all of my school done, or i'll be 40 with the same credentials, bitching and moaning because I didn't follow through. Which way you wanna play? :smt106

there's a reason i went to PSU instead of temple. U. of Penn (don't get it confused with PSU) is situated in a good area, IMO. I'm down there a lot and the campus is very nice. They have around three detachments of security there also. They have their own sworn-officer Penn Police, Allied-Barton security, and Campus Safety teams that patrol the corners and provide escort service for students and faculty. The library at Penn is second to none (other than Harvard), and boasts like 8 or 9 floors. They even have rocking chairs in it, for the spoiled brats that are used to being rocked to sleep. Speaking of brats, if you can get past the one-dimensional type of student body, you'll be gold. If you're looking for a more diverse socio-economical campus, temple is a better fit. Penn students are snobs.
Dude I'm shooting for a little name brand recognition lol. I probably won't get in but maybe they need an extra black person this year lol. But on a serious note those Penn kids ALWAYS find jobs and they are very well paying. Forgot Villanova is on my list too. Are they all in the same general area? Does Temple have a lot of black people?
i would say right off the bat that Temple is more diverse, ethnically and socially there's something for everyone there as for penn and black students, you may be joking, but the Ivy league has been trying (allegedly) to get more qualified minorities in. You probably still need good grades, but having the skin color may give you that extra push. Villanova has a pretty decent academic reputation as well, but it's located outside the city a good way. Don't be fooled. ALSO..i just read that Harvard gives full-rides to kids with family incomes under 60,000/yr. Penn doesn't do that, but you can see how some of these schools are trying to be more inclusive of kids that don't come from those upper-class families. If you were looking into business/econ, penn would definitely be your ticket. It consistently ranks up there and supposedly with all of these business grads from different schools, having a big name like that can help. I'd say apply tho. Apply to as many schools as you can, so that you won't have any doubts about whether or not you could have gotten in. Even if you don't attend, saying that you got in to Penn or Wharton, or went there for 1 year, speaks volumes. I'd list that on a resume, regardless of where I graduated in the end
Wharton is the business school I'm going for an applied mathematics based approach to econ that isn't necessarily business based but as I'm learning you can't go wrong with an IVY. Employers love it, ladies love it, and moms would love it. Can't beat that.
if it makes you feel any better..there's a peri-op administrator that I know here in philly, that graduated from Wharton she's only in her 30s and commanding that whole section (over-seeing the nurses, technical staff, etc) if you have good grades and know you could make that sacrifice, id say go for it their website tells you right off the bat that the program is vicious, but in the end it'll pay off
I still consider those to be the best years of my life I had 4 roommates in my apartment and we always had fun the landlord always put girls above us each year, and they'd invite us up for more fun if only I could turn back time
I guess my post was a little off topic for this thread but the focus of my post wasn't really bashing American women, it was a post airing out grievances with the country generally. This includes men and women, and to a degree, Canadians are also criticized as well on Wu's website. I'm assuming that someone would read this and say "Perhaps, I should go to another country outside of North America and find a woman of any race that expresses interest in me." Unfortunately, I realize that leaving the country isn't the best thing to do either, partially because of the global recession that we're in. There would be more severe economic consequences that a person would have to contend with such as higher unemployment, lower credit ratings for the country (A- or BB, etc), and higher deficits, home foreclosures, etc. A lot of this is really evident in the Eurozone countries. Thus, I believe it's a catch 22 because either way you're taking a "hit/loss" of some sort no matter what you do. The best thing to do to mitigate this and make the best out of living in America is to try to join social groups/clubs and network with people, and also communicate through online mediums in addition to meeting those people in person. That's the way (mostly) communication and socializing in America works and communication with others feels "natural", if you know what I mean. That's the first thing that a person needs to understand. Then the person needs to "filter" through people (ie, figure out who's a decent person to hang around and who isn't.) Edit: Of course, we also have to account for exceptions. I've had white girls (in several situations that I could remember) randomly just come up to me during cross country running races and it felt almost "automatic" for me to start up conversations with them in a friendly manner.
Not to mention that i'm racking up more loan debt, because my job only covers 8k a year...and my yearly cost is double...and i'm only going part time
