Actually it isn't. The two terms are not mutually exclusive. Atheism applies to belief and agnosticism applies to knowledge. You can be both. Here are some links explaining it further: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnostic_atheism (I know it's not the most reliable source though) http://www.allaboutphilosophy.org/agnostic-atheist-faq.htm And what do you mean not all religions are man made. If they are not made by man, then who made them? Deities? Aliens?
Certain eastern practices don't have deities just an understanding of having harmony with the earth, these religions never advocate nor accept the use of violence outside of hunting for food. Man made to me means making up a bunch of shit.
if anything, that's one thing I do try to have i don't have a car and use public transportation to work for one. While waiting for the bus, i often look at people driving big vehicles alone, with no one else in them. Such a waste of the environment and resources, you know.
The terms are not mutually exclusive? Well my limited understanding is that atheism means without belief in God and agnosticism is a belief in something bigger but lacking the knowledge to explain it. Atheism, at least as I've seen it practiced, is just as harsh and fanatical as most Western religions. When people like Christopher Hitchens(RIP) and Steven Hawkings disallow for there to be more than what current science can explain it completely turns me off. I had a thought many years ago that has stayed with me almost everyday and it's how would one prove there are radio waves without a radio. I'm not saying I know what God is or isn't but maybe we haven't found the instrumentation to explain it yet.
seriously tho i know new yorkers are generally driven away from using cars because of heavy traffic, but people in other cities aren't. Philly has a very elaborate network of public transportation, but people would still rather fire up their 6 passenger SUV, and drive to the same place a bus stops near. Why won't they ride the bus? Because of smelly passengers for one, and crying kids. You kinda see the disconnect from community many people have, as they'd rather fence themselves in from their humanity and sense of belonging, and pollute the earth at a greater rate, than they would by leaving a smaller carbon footprint using the bus.
there goes that disconnect i was talking about.. this whole focus on self.....individualism at its best i get a kick out of you people being gouged for oil, while my hybrid bus fare stays relatively the same
I don't have hours of my day to waste on waiting for the bus fam. I'm glad the bus system is there if I need it but I gotta do what's best for me since no else will.
Not before greed and incompetence. Humans are one of the least adaptive species and most parasitic species on earth. Of all the earths inhabitants, we know the most about the earth yet we're the least in tuned with it. We destroy all species including our own to achieve comfort. Our value system has become corrupted to the point where we covet meaningless junk in an attempt to achieve a happiness which remains out of our reach. While our industrialism can be looked at as the cause of extinction of so many species, our population continues to increase to the point where we have to look to drastic measures just to keep the population (over)fed. We grow, consume and destroy.... and that will ultimately be the death of humanity.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to jaisee again. i've seriously got a bad case of girl wood right now :smt050:smt058
Dude are your dreads extra tight today. That's what I said lol. I guess you expanded far more than I was willing to I guess.
Which isn't possible without a sense of individuality where from our perspective we're all that matters. A great dipiction of this is the book Call Me Ishmael. You should check it out if you have a chance
Fuck yes! Obama is the only person who made me want to become American for just a little bit... (so I could vote for him)... He made my life better, in fact SAVED my life, and that's a fact (with the income-based college debt repayment plan)... If it weren't for him I'd have $500 per month to pay in student loans, which would be more than my rent. Not to mention that I think he's wonderful - in so many ways. I agree with most of his opinions. And of course I love that he's black. I bought an Obama t-shirt and wear it proudly... since I can't vote, I figure I can spread the love.
