He was definitely winning but made a mistake on the ground. It's a testament to the recuperative power and presence of mind of Mir. However, as far as the injury, if you look closely, he was definitely trying to tap, just a bit too late. It looked almost as if he tapped and Frank thought, what the hell, just a little bit more.

I was more impressed by Jon B putting The Dragon to sleep in a standing position. He let go and the guy just crumbled to the canvas as Jon walked away, very impressive.

As far as Brock, he may not be a Kimbo Slice, but I don't think that he can stand up to the big hitters in the weight class, and he hasn't battled the hardest hitter yet, let alone those with good submission skills. It'll be interesting to see how he fares going forward.

Remember...frank Mir caught the business from Brock in their first fight, then came away with a submission win at the last minute

people need to stop sleeping on the ground game

to make matters worse I think both nogs are bjj blackbelts

Need I say more...As I predicted, Brock can't compete against the elite in the UFC. It's too difficult for anyone, no matter their athleticism, to go into the octagon with guys who're trained multi-skilled martial artists. So much for the hype of Lesner, lol. He did turn out to be another Kimbo Slice after all.

Lesnar won the title, defended it once and only lost to the best guys in the division. Kimbo got layed out by a jab from this freak:

You can't even compare the two.

i knew how this was going to go already

Alistair is the real deal with a ton of more fighting experience. Brock's gameplan was shit to think he could stay in the pocket and strike with him after training striking for as little as he has. That's like those tools striking with Anderson Silva, who's been doing Muay Thai since he was a kid. They always get embarrassed, lol.

Alistair stayed in a low stance which is good for defending against takedowns because you're body is in a better position to sprawl, so I guess that's why Brock didn't utilize his wrestling. Guess he wanted Alistair to go high with his strikes, then get the single or double on a counter.

That's probably why Alistair kept going low on him with the body attacks. He already figured Brock was looking for the counter.

    @brock's last fight......

what a fucking tool....nothing but a marketing sham from the start

real fighters that have been doing muay thai or boxing forever ran right through him

Everyone thought because dude was a mountain of muscle he couldn't get got and now he got straight embarassed. Even though Alistar is a mountain him damnself. 6'5 263 that boy is no fucking joke. I wonder who can stand against him.

it's just a testament to the skill level of these guys. just because a guy is HUGE doesn't mean he can fight. Brock just has size (goon factor) and his natural athletic ability as a wrestler. He's only been doing MMA for a few years or some shit...get real.

They needed Brock to support the UFC as they moved toward mass appeal. They were able to market him as this "beast" who was a world class wrestler with cat reflexes and speed. People bought into as he fought easy fights with much smaller guys, and had trouble with some of them. Once he faced guys who were bigger and who had true MMA skills, he was destined to have problems, and it showed. If he stayed, rather than wisely retiring, he wouldn't have won another fight as he wouldn't had to fight ranked fighters, not over the hill or smaller guys. It was time to take out of the fork, he was done.

Btw, I don't know if you caught Dana's remark after J. Bone's fight. He commented that the UFC is seeing what happens when "real athletes" become MMA fighters. It kind of sounded like code for, watch out the brothas are coming.

you know...sadly Chael was supposed to be fighting Silva for the title again, until Anderson said he was hurt

and GSP was scheduled to fight Superbowl Weekend but blew out his ACL, which sets him back 9 months or something

the badnews is that you miss competition at the highest of levels, as watching Silva dismantle professional fighters is silly. The goodnews is that you get to focus on lesser known fighters, like that Barbosa guy who KOd the guy with a spinning kick. The beauty of MMA is that even watching a fight between two unknown guys can be entertaining. Sometimes their fights are more explosive than two main card mofos.

i just watched the fight and Suga Rashad looked pretty good. He's only had one lost in his career (to machida), so i think he's a good top-flight competitor for Jones. The downside is Evans has NO reach and is pretty short for 205. Bones is 6'4 and has that insane 84inch reach (i'm 6'2 with 79..soooo not fair). While Evans did very good against Phil Davis who's reach is around 78-79, I just don't think he'll be able to get jones with his striking. I'm looking for strong wrestling and dirty boxing on behalf of Rashad. He's got hand speed and good standup, so if he's able to close that distance, I think he'll be able to edge out a W.

Let me remind you of Tyson vs Lewis, Fedor vs almost everyone he faced. Reach is an advantage but superior bypass that shit like it ain't nothing.

    lol

it's not just his reach tho...it's the whole package he has that makes his reach more deadly

when guys DO close the gap and pop shit off, he uses very good movement like Anderson Silva to evade damage. I see Rashad trying to post him up against the cage nullifying Jones superior movement. You got to take away his reach AND trap him.

In Jones' camp, I see them training his leg kicks. The staple for defeating wrestlers is nullifying their explosiveness. You've seen that with Overeem vs Brock, and you're definitely going to see Jones' staying way outside and throwing those kicks to Evan's lead leg. Take away his leg, and you take away his ability to shoot and/or close gaps. Being as those Evan's is a great wrestler, I definitely don't see Jones' going with a gameplan that didn't at least pay some attention to that.

The kid is a beast but he's still really green, I refuse to believe someone who started 4 years ago is going to take down all the seasoned athletes in this sport.

he's a natural elite level athlete

his brothers play in the NFL or some shit, and it looks like he's built from the same mold of highly competitive athletes
