I totally understand this. I am in NYC for 12 weeks and cannot imagine living here for years at a time. Where I'm from, you make a lot more money, pay less for a lot more house and just have a better quality of life. Because I'm not a fan of living in big cities, I find it challenging to understand why people would want to live here. What I am paying to rent a room in a 3 bedroom row house is the same as what I'd pay for a one bedroom apartment back home in a decent area. It is fun to be here for a short bit though PS. Still loving the eye candy on the streets of NYC. Yummmmmmsie!
Alberta, Canada. Seriously job central and the pay is generally very good. Our economy is healthy and growing. I made 6 figures with a 2 year technical diploma education (after a one year certification program). (I've since been to school for many more years and thus my pay will reflect that when I'm done.... lol)
sweet a woman who is honest about the value of stacks on the real tho, many people sleep on tech school if you go for the right thing and look in the right market, u can make much more than some 4 year degree recipients
Most of the population in Alberta is from eastern Canada lol. I worked in the oil & gas industry (not as an oil tech but in a supportive role in the field). You got that right. A friend of mine became a technician in the oil field, 2 year diploma from a technical college, and retired for a few years in his early 30's. Went back to work for something to do. He was single and lived at home so saved nearly every cent he made - and he made A LOT.
Seriously sometimes you just have to deviate from your comfort zone don't sell yourself short you know explore your options and don't be afraid to take a calculated risk, if you know where you want to be for instance, Air Traffic Controllers don't necessarily need 4 year degrees, but they still have the potential to rake in lots of money it's a stressful job but some people thrive in environments like that.. Infact I'd say a good number of high paying jobs are stressful, so that's to be expected you know...take docs and lawyers for instance. Everyone knows they live in high potential fields, but many people overlook the sacrifices they make to stay in it

You're paying for the overall artistic/professional/intellectual stimulation of living in NYC. If you are spending most of your time at home, you're missing the NYC experience. Granted, it's hard to do that for more than 3-5 years. All my friends who are married and/or have kids in the Tri-State area are in Jersey or Queens. They all bailed out of Manhattan and subsequently Brooklyn the minute they settled down with a significant other.
I agree. I am seemingly constantly putting myself outside my comfort zone, it's almost always stressful, sometimes terrifying but ALWAYS pays of big.
