newt-racist and ultraconservative. in the last week or so he has made derogatory statements in regards to the poor and black people's lack of work ethics. thus the story of the woman who worked her ass off and still got fired. using newts voice via pict...he is expressing dismay that his stereotyping falls short of reality and he calls her a nigger. that is something he would say.

You are right this story has nothing to do with her race or gender, but who is writing is an important consideration.

It's understandable that people may feel that race is a factor in the case whether the facts bare this out or not. There is a lot of inequality in the job market today, and to ignore it as a possibility is to ignore that these things happen in a greater social context.

If you are a woman regardless of race you will get less pay on average even though women often enhance the efficiency, and culture of many male dominated companies and industries.

If you are black, and of equal education, and qualifications to your Caucasian male counterparts you will less likely find yourself sharing with him the very upper level of the pay scale for a given job. These kinds of differences illuminates the disparity of opportunity inherent in the American, and other white male dominated workplaces too many cases. If you have stats disproving this please provide.

I am not boohooing or anything of the sort, and I don't go through life hat-in-hand begging for the crumbs of of someone else table. But...I am not blind to the fact that decisions of hiring, firing, and promoting happens not in a socially neutral vacuum.

Every race and both genders have contributed greatly to society to the point that if you erased the positive contributions of any group life would be a lot worst in many ways. My point is that people are often vilified, because of a few bad apples by even worst rotten apples. If the general business, and criminal justice system consistently bares numbers that didn't indicate discrimination there would be no debate...we would be celebrating a wonderful meritocracy thinking that anyone claiming discrimination; insane.

Before anyone says anything about it, all groups face discrimination to some degree, but it is not systemic against white males, unless of course, they have a known penchant for brown sugar .
