I practice a policy of every person for themselves!(really in this day and age. we should have enough boats which is why that old format was cast a side.)

However, the crew may have signed a contract of some sort of policy.

i don't know, but the italian coast guard was dead SERIOUS that the cruise boat captain go back and make sure everyone was off.

looks like people are calling for his head and jail time

not sure how that works in Italy, with civilian ship captains and all

From what I heard, 6 people died. They are pushing hard for man slaughter. Now I'm not to sure if that is cruel or not if he is found guilty. He didn't literally kill them.

It is hard to say what you will do when your boat is doing 90 degrees. Now should he have evacuated sooner. yes sHould have been paying attention to how close he was to the coast. yes

as a captain, he was in charge of the ship, it's direction, it's destination, and in extreme circumstances, it's evacuation. He was a leader who abandoned people. I'd strip him of his titles and bar him from commanding a commercial ship again, but I don't know if i'd send him to jail for trying to save his life. How much courage, bravery and sacrifice could you expect from someone that's not in charge of a military warship? Besides, it's one of those situations you don't know how you'd react in until you yourself are in it. Who are we to judge?

Ya a couple of witnesses said they saw him in a lifeboat hiding under a blanket while people were still on board freaking out. Then I read the guy swam to shore and hailed a taxi to get away from the scene. Pretty shady. Especially since it sounds like the grounding was his fault to begin with.

he's the captain..he's supposed to take responsibility for whatever happens. hailing a taxi to flee the scene wasn't a play out of the playbook, lol

the transcript from the conversation between him and the coast guard was pretty tense tho. Crazy shit in this world.
