All this beefing is silliness, but Common does have a point about ol' fake Drake. When it really comes down to it though, who really cares? :smt102
I never understood it all either. It's not usually like one is taking money out of the others hand so why do they get worked up about what others are doing? Looks more childish than anything.
I agree. All of that ego crap makes no sense to me. It's also boring as hell, but some people really get into that nonsense. It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.
Rappers pull this bullshit when they have an album coming out as a way of generating publicity. Common's album was released in December and dissing Drake is his childish way of saying, "Look at me!"
Just another ploy to sell some records. I wouldn't be surprised if Charley Pride and Waylon Jennings tried the same tactic with one another 50 years ago.
Hip-hop is rooted in conflict. Unfortunately, it's a lot different from the friendly battles that hip-hop was supposed to be about. Even Common isn't above pulling some bullshit like this.
The origin of 'battling' in lyrics and breaking was supposed to serve as an alternative to conflict, but it seems like these days, it's either bs for marketing purposes or actually a prelude to the foolishness spilling over into the streets. SMDH.
Very true. Ice Cube single-handedly murdered NWA on that track. Cube & Westside Connection held it down with "King of The Hill" too. I would be inclined however to state that "Hit Em' Up" Is probably the greatest diss-track ever.
