Yeah i really don't understand that either. Someone gets cancer that God gave them on purpose and they pray that it changes it's mind and removes it. Makes no sense at all.

    Why do you pray?,............................................ ...

God wants for us to have faith in much of what are earthly eyes cannot see. we are to believe in his words, it is about faith.

i pray so that i may speak to God. i pray for those unable to fight the battles that confront them. i pray so that we of whom are responsible can help those of us that are not.

i pray so that real love, and caring will be thought of first before the castigation of one or many of whom cannot speak as well. i pray for each of those here so that the impediments to their lives can be removed, and replaced with deeper, and more love to share.

i pray to learn more about that of which i have not learned. i pray for hungry ones to be nourished, seen, and cared of. i pray for you,

Because it makes me feel good and those who would try to convince me not to pray are usually unhappy douche bags

If you believe your assumptions are absolutely correct then there is absolutely no need for you to try take away my concept of truth and happiness to fulfill your self righteous ego. I will find out eventually.
One overall pattern I see in zealots of all kinds is they are usually unhappy and douchy. Live and let live. It cost you nothing to pay me no mind.

You've made a fucked up, asinine generalization because your anus get the dreaded itches when someone speak on the matter at hand. People like you claim to be less pompous and less egotistical. However, looking at you...you have no room to talk.

And it's laughable that you like to call everyone overly zealous, yet never look in the mirror and realize that you're no different. Not based on assumption, but based on what I see on here and possibly being reflective of your limited scope on life.

Slow down sally. No need to get personal. You can wipe the sand out of your vagina no need to get so sensitive boo lol.

I promote living and let live and you and your cohorts promote pompous righteousness and I'm the one with the ego? Lol. Ok sir I concede.

Wow. You're only proving my point even more. Who's the one with the bigger ego here, little man? Sure as hell not I. However, the individual with an avatar of an overrated actor tends to inflate himself with pseudo-logical claims.

Come on...if you're going to even TRY to belittle me, then at least don't come off exercising sexist remarks too. You're only making yourself look more like a pompous ass. But you can pray that away right? I figured not. What sort of comfort are you giving yourself again?

I pray when I feel that it is time to pray..........when I am afraid, when I have sorrows or just to thank God for my life and my wonderful family.

Sometime when I just go to church and on a candle and pray a little bit .....I just feel better. What I do not like is to pray when people are arround. Praying is a personal and private thing. I need peace for that.

as my faith in Jesus Christ is a personal relationship not a religion experience, talking to God daily helps to build my relationship more with HIM

its communication between my Lord and myself-It only works if you have a personal relatonship, as a believer and follower. and its not a slot machine sort of thing, you dont get material things just by praying. its as a form of worship, thanks, praise, askings, telling, sharing, repening, sharing the burdens and concerns of others--placing yourself humbly before my Lord.

Its worked for me for 35 years, cant speak for others

Many people don't realize that faith in Jesus Christ is not a religion but a personal relationship with a very real Savior. That's what sets Christianity apart from other belief systems.

How do you have a personal relationship with a book character in your brain? :smt102

    Everyone has a different Jesus.

    The Jesus that hates gays
    The Jesus that loves gays
The Jesus that supports free health care
The Jesus that opposes free health care
    The Jesus that accepts evolution
The Jesus that rode around on a dinosaur

If you talk to enough Christians, you find that Jesus/God pretty much supports every side of every issue. The guy is as versatile as Mr potato head.

DJ, why do you have such a discussion without defining whether you are talking about theory, hypothesis, or law. There are differences, and acknowledging which of these you are talking about leads to a more sensible discussion...as much as you can with religion based topics.

The wording of your question indicates a bias, not a scientific inquiry. No scientific journal writer would phrase a question like this...especially the first sentence.

The essence of what you are saying is:
    1. Your beliefs are fallacious
    2. You are engaging in illogical behavior based on these false beliefs
    3. Do you pray for one of these two reasons, or "some other reason"...which is just a phrase to feign objectivity.

This is an obvious attempt to inflame, not to start an intelligent discourse.
In addition, an honest researcher, or scientist will do their best to disprove themselves before going public with strong assertions often asking peers, and opposition to do their best to disprove their theories. I have a feeling that you have put little, or no effort into looking into counter-evidence. Until the time that you do this you cannot make claims in the name of objective science, neither can your opposition to be fair.

It would be best if you don't use one study, and a few scriptures to imply that what your say is on the level of scientific law. I'm pretty sure that you are neither a religious scholar, or a medical expert by any reasonable measure.

By-the-way nice try springing the article on us later in the thread, this was so contrived it's actually funny...made me laugh especially since I expected it, but one article doesn't constitute proof, and if this is the level, and depth of your emm, ehemm, research you should be embarrassed.

For reassurance mostly, the thought that it could be something that receives a simple prayer, even though my logical thoughts shut that possibility down quickly
