I know. I like a bit nerdy with a sense of humor. Not into thug. To me thug signifies immature. I don't know why but it does. Thug always seems like a phase. When a guy gets to be around late 20's to 30ish and settles in their personality your rarely see thug as they get past it.

    Uhhh saty...margaritas and nachos. :smt021

If that's you in the avi I am sorry for every bad thing I have ever said about you lol.

But I agree with your post that's why I asked dude how old he was. As a man you get to an age where you realize all this tough guy shit doesn't get you far. That kind of "swag" usually gets you in trouble or keeps you from working in certain jobs. There are some strong personalities out there but none I would describe as thuggish as far as the corporate world is considered.
Thugs are usually guys willing to throw away years of their lives over mundane and ridiculous nonsense. Just mho

I think the most important thing for you to do is be yourself, truly just you. You don't need to flash rolls of money or dress thug if that is truly not your style.... I firmly believe that you will attract the right girl for you if you believe in yourself.

For me, I look out for small things a guy may say or do, a gentle smile, old fashioned manners, a guy who opens the door for me, the way he introduces himself,,, someone who seems to have a kind heart. Usually, this shows through his respect for himself and the way he presents himself..... But this is just my opinion.

gotta jaisee this...thugish is not at all attractive - not on any level; intelligence always wins with me (not necessarily highly educated). An intelliegent man with commonsense who's taking care of business, whatever business that may be :smt023 :smt045 :smt007

****** sorry ladies, gotta vote with Saty - beer & nachos all the way

TY Dark Knight for addressing the maturity issue. This is thug equal swag, or something positive mentality is a sign of someone that has some growing up to do. The perception that the thug persona is tougher than anyone else is completely false. Willingness to fight for ones convictions is what makes one tough, and that can come in any appearance. A lot of this thug stuff is just much icing, an affectation often used to cover up cowardice. If this thug thing was so real, and rooted in a persons soul, these guys/girls for the most part wouldn't get more "corporate looking," and would keep up the whole thug thing when facing a criminal trail.

I just want more bm to see this and adopt a more mature disposition. We have little kids looking up to us. You ask any decent man who is a self proclaimed thug if he wants his son to lead the same life they usually say no.
i'd rather raise a Carlton or an Urkel anyday. Those are the future Obamas, those are the men that end up in the living the life thread.

Interesting. What is exactly constitutes a "thug"? Or what is it that makes one a "Carlton Banks"?

Good opinions by everyone but many times its hard to put people in these boxes because its all a matter of opinion. These labels are so arbitrary. People are people and personality traits (how someone dresses, talks, etc.) often have little to do with what type of character they have. We often miss out by automatically putting labels on people.

I agree maybe thug wasn't the proper term. Thug's are individuals that really don't have any problems with losing their life or ending yours.

Thug is not an arbitrary label it has an historical context if you are knowledgeable on Indian history. Thugs always have been violent criminals. The word still maintains this element even if people today are not a member of the Thuggee group. Thugs today are still criminals. People that admire this are not balanced in my opinion. There is no dress code for thugs, but on the street level there is for the most part, and it's not the slacks, blouses, and dress shirts they wear to court. That doesn't mean that everybody that has street element in there clothing is a criminal...far from it.

The difference from the original Thugs and the modern street level is that the originals were smart enough to blend in until it was time to do their dirt. There are thugs that are like this today that blend in mainstream...think politicians, "nut jobs," and business people that cause death in pursuit of there interest. Neoconservative, and Realism as political philosophy was the cause of many unjustifiable deaths by the American government, so there Neocons and Realist are also thugs.

It's obvious what people mean when juxtaposing a thug with a "Carlton Banks." When this kind of comparison is used they are talking about the stupidest level of thuggery in-which it's members flaunt there activity while dressing, and acting the part. This is bad for the good people with similar fashion style, because you often end up in needless conflicts with police. This is usually what people are talking about when using this kind of comparison...the dumb asses, and the people that emulate them to imply toughness. We all know the two places a great many of these dumb asses end up at a young age, so it is terrible that they get idolized.

I was too wordy. This thug thing is just a reference to people that are criminal, violent, and are conspicuous about it. No need for my long ass post.

I don't see a thug as much determined by age as by background. My definition of thugs runs as much to the kind of survivalist "street hustler" mentality. They come from tough backgrounds, may have been gang members, and it's something that stays with the person through their lives, and often gets in the way of them living healthy and fulfilled lives. They may be intelligent and sometimes educated people. When they confront issues in life they often fall back on what they know best. Their conduct is often surprising as it's unexpected. Maybe some would call it "hood" mentality.

    Examples

Millionaire football players caught up in selling drugs.

OJ, trying to "retrieve" sports memorabilia.

    Mafioso

Choose any reality show, Mobster Wives, Love and Hip Hop, etc.
