Should have never faced charges to begin with

that's 3 month in rikers that he won't get back

very disappointed in the justice system, populated by fat cats that never faced these kinds of life or death situations

plus he lost his job on top of everything else

this country is so wrong sometimes

It is especially hard for a guy who has a record to find a job. I mean it was tough enough in this recession. geez man. I really bad for him. I hope he does get a better paying job.

i hope there's some sort of petition floating around or a rally happening for this. the system gets no excuse in this one. I know he dodged a bullet, but he swallowed another one just by being locked up until his shit was over. This could have happened to anyone of us, faced with a life or death situation. It's like the right to self-defense is coming under fire. An injustice to one is an injustice to all.

I mean come on, there's undeniable video footage of this on youtube and i'm sure the stores are equipped with their own CCTV. This should have never went to trial. McDonalds gets a blackeye as well for firing him, and not giving him any options for rehire. They should get boycotted for the way they treated someone that was fearing for their life.

What was the exact reason McDonalds gave for firing him?

McDonald's is one of the world's largest corporations that posted a thirty percent gain on the Dow for 2011. They can't afford to let the perception of their restaurant being the place where you can grab a Big Mac and beatdown hang in their air. Regardless of who was fault, the employee had to go.

There you go. Meaning if it caught the main news and every one said (like verzion and boa) we will not go shopping there, He'd be hired back.

Since quite a few people shopping at mcdonald's don't care about their health, I doubt they will care enough to do a protest.

Read my post again genius. This is less about what patrons want but the image that McDonald's wants to project to the public. They want to be seen as a family restaurant, not an establishment where people are beaten behind the counter.

The reason they or any company wants a good image is to bring in money. If the media ran day after day, hour after hour, second after second that McDonald's does not support a human being defending themselves and will fire them, I guarantee that would bring a bad image. I guarantee you just like bank of america and verzion(who also wants to keep a good image), they would change their policy.

    Clearly, you meant something else.

I honestly find it hard to believe that a company would not break under the pressure of the media trashing them. If the president of the united states broke under it. If Bank of america broke under it. If Verzion broke under it. I don't see it happening.

I think it depends on what you think "bad image" means.
Here they think bad image is a beat down at MCD, not the firing. right or wrong. Its made on the same basis the Verizon decision was made, really.

Unless there is a huge backlash as in the Verizon case, this is what "perception" means to them.
So both of you are correct:)

Black men in particular carry the burden of having to appear non threatening. Any hint of social disobedience is met with a scrutiny I don't seen used for men of other races. The fact that the guy at work had to do time in jail because he was attacked at work is very telling of that fact especially when video evidence was produced.

I know some think it was excessive for him to hit them while they were down but in a situation like there is absolutely no way of knowing if they were going to reach for a weapon in their pocket. Its not far fetched to believe that people whp are willing to slap you and then come behind the counter wouldn't also have a weapon.
Had he been white or had those been two bm that went behind the counter this would be a different story.

This is very true. I've seen it happen.

If you knock them down, make sure they are knocked out. Street people do not go by a code of ethics.

This is why in a few yrs, Sunoco Inc. will crush the Big MD. When their clerks make YouTube beating up would-be-robbers with sticks, bats and brooms, they're hailed as heroes. :smt039

Exactly. Like the saying goes I'd rather be judged by 12 than be carried by 6
