Maybe I should do a poll. I wonder whether it would be good on this section or the In the Media section...I'm debating.

Car Talk, All Things Considered, Fresh Air and a few other programs are broadcast over here on the Armed Forces Network, but to catch the other programs I listened to stateside, I have the internet...

One show I never really gave a chance (although I need to listen to it someday) would be "A Prairie Home Companion". It's a good show, I'm certain, but for some reason I'm not too keen on giving it a try.

Basically when I'm driving I usually tune to NPR or a local station for the blind and print handicapped.

Like I said, it seemed like he was agreeing with you, just elaborating his "stalker experiences".

How many TV stations do you get with Armed Forces Network? We called it AFRTS back in the day (late 80's) and we only had one station. I don't think we ever even listened to the radio station.

They changed the name to AFN in the late 90's and now we can buy satellite receivers that allow us to get AFN TV and Radio stations from all over the world regardless of where the person is. But at each location, the network is carrying a minimum of 8 - 15 channels (AFN-1, etc). I own a receiver but am not much of a television watcher, I generally catch the radio programming and news. AFN's local radio programming leaves a lot to be desired. Trying to appeal to so many different tastes, makes getting one's music groove on impossible. lol

But the most popular shows in the states are playing on the channels here sometimes live (at Oh Dark Thirty in the morning) or tape delayed...

I knew that had changed the name, but wow, they have definitely changed with the times!
I used to watch a soap opera in the afternoon when my son napped and then we watched the news. Oh, and David Letterman. Other than that, there wasn't much to watch. And what we did have was about 2 months old.

I've always loved that "o'dark thirty" expression. Lol!

Some programs are now a day late, some half a season behind but there are enough shows and channels that you can find something that appeals to you and if you missed it during the day, you can catch the same programming at night... It definitely has changed a lot... the next challenge is converting to digital.... AFN signals are still broadcast in analog and most televisions are now digital which means a crappy picture... It will probably take AFN another 5 years to convert to digital.

Hmmm, I hear Turks get batshit if you call them Armenians. Could this be true?

Turks and Armenians have a long standing feud that goes back to WWI and atrocities alleged on both sides, but to answer your question.... It wouldn't be wise to call a Turk Armenian or an Armenian a Turk. The Republic of Armenia is a separate but poor country to east of Turkey.

There is a large Armenian presence in the US... including the Kardashians, Andre Agassi....)

I'm fully aware of that, believe me. I knew one who attended my university and three years back, there was a conference or forum involving Turks and Armenians. I sat in the front with a friend of mine and long story short...it wasn't FIVE minutes until they started blowing up on each other. Turks accused Armenians of fabricating the Armenian Genocide and other crazy things.

It all went down south the minute someone threw a chair and had to evacuate the building.

We have tense days here in Turkey every time Congress decides whether to pass a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, and then again when any US president makes a speech marking the event. In the past, Turks threatened to shut down US businesses, and close evict the American military on the bases there... there are protests at the American Embassy and both Consulates... Turks become fiercely protective of events that occurred back in 1913....

They need to learn from the Japanese and be more diplomatic in their suppression of history. :p

It will be another 100 years and even then, both sides will still be holding a grudge and disputing what the other side alleges... Neither side will apologize so that they can move on to the next level. The European Union (and the US) tried to get them to start some dialogue, but right after the groundwork was laid, there was some slights and snubs border disputes that put the brakes on everything.

I guess everybody in the world has somebody else in the world who is the "enemy"...
