I guess it depends on how you measure it - as the last sentence points out, nice guys have an edge in romance.

Just skimmed the findings in the paper. It turns out that nice guys don't finish last, women do:

They don't finish first and that's all that matters. I honestly we need to adjust that concept and go with dishonest men finish last and honest men finish first. And my honest and dishonest I mean to ones self.

There is a reason why non-nice guys seem to have the edge. They are cocky and therefore would go the extra mile by taking risks always be ahead of the pack and if that means pushing a colleague over the cliff to do that, he wont hesitate at all. Unfortunately in the corporate world its dog eat dog and bad guys thrive there.

Either you didn't read it or you didn't understand it. Where did you say you go to college, again? Fortunately this is the time of year when my red pen is always close at hand. ;)

I get the impression that very wealthy, successful businessmen are rather ruthless types, that are driven by greed/profit, and don’t care who’s toes they step on in the process. I find those traits unattractive and would rather be with a less “successful” man, who had a heart of gold.

Pretty much. "The love of money AND power" seems to carry a spirit of it's own.

I agree goodlove. There is no ultimatum on what success is. Too bad most people can't recognize this truth because they are so influenced by what mainstream society says success is. "Success" is simply reaching the goals that you set for yourself no matter what they are.

edgy guys are more fun to be around, imo

    someone that's a wise-ass, a little cocky, etc

as long as they're not overboard, i can see how their personality traits would put them in favor with higher-ups. After all, isn't work boring enough? Wouldn't you rather work with someone who livens up the place from time to time with their 'locker room' presence? The person you miss when they're out sick, because you're bored to death with no distraction from the routine.

    :)

seriously personality goes a long way

on my latest departmental review, my 'positive' attitude was one thing highlighted as a plus.

I go to work everyday willing to make people laugh (i guess that in a way qualifies as a nice-guy thing hmm), talk smack and put them in better moods, regardless of how suck things are. I still get the work done as well, just while being a little bold and talking shit from time to time. In the end, everyone likes to hang around me. I couldn't imagine a workplace that wasn't like that.

This stuff translates to job interviews as well. If you get people to like your personality and the way you handle yourself, you've already accomplished most of your objective. The rest is just the nuts and bolts of your resume.

Everyone has a resume, education, and so forth nowadays. But not everyone is a good fit into the workplace culture.
