No swooning here. The man is ranting and yelling the same thing over and over again. I've never seen that work when you want to make a point and have people take you seriously. Y'all thought the woman in the McDonald's beatdown clip was just a hystterical yeller. Well, this guy was just as ineffective as she was, imo.

Show me a guy who steps to someone's defense and gets his point across without making a spectacle of himself, and I'll swoon. Especially if he's in uniform.

Wow now maybe I'll be heard now that panty dropper 2000 has agreed with me lol.

And I'm sure if he was eye candy this would be a completely different thread lol.

You can't compare the two. They were different situations. He was actually trying to make a point she was screaming in hysteria and like its been said so many times her screaming was misplaced and bullshit. Where was she when the two women attacked him and went after him. No screams to stop that huh.

The people who make true change amongst the masses aren't those standing behind a podium giving a pretty speech. It's the men and women who stand with people letting the opposition know we won't take this anymore what you're doing is dead wrong.

And please show me how you can possibly defend others in a crowd against the police without making a spectacle of yourself?

    THIS.

The police are just people like you and I with a badge and a faux sense of entitlement. Do police vehicles still say "To Serve and Protect"? I certainly don't feel that they serve my interests, nor do I feel protected by them. It's quite the opposite, I am a law abiding citizen.... rarely even drive over the speed limit.,. yet I feel a sense of anxiety in the presence of the police. A few years ago, I was working super late. My ex-gf, who was Jewish, invited me to stay at her house since she lived 10 mins from my work while I lived about 45 mins away. As I was driving into her wealthy Jewish community, a police vehicle began to follow me turn-for-turn. As I parked my car, they slowed down to keep an eye on me. Once she opened the gate and gave me a hug they pulled off. This is the kind of thing that most people can easily justify by saying "Well, they were just being cautious".... but I'm quite sure if my skin weren't brown they'd never have given me a second thought.

The police are the strong arm of an extremely corrupt system that protects the rich and powerful. Sure, they do 'some' good but how often do you turn on the news to find some police commissioner taking bribes or shooting unarmed people? Having sex with drunk women in the police stations?

BIG difference, the lady in the McD's beatdown was just some ghetto shit in another ghetto situation. This man took a protective role, standing firm between the police and the citizens and speaking truth. Was he ranting? Yes. Was he yelling? Yes. Was it effective? Yes. In the manner that he approached the situation, he managed to accomplish quite a few things.... mainly bringing attention to himself and the situation. In doing so, he put himself in a position where the police would have met HEAVY scrutiny should they approach him. The man was heated... he fought for the civilians in Iraq and comes home to see the NYPD effectively taking away the freedoms that he put his life on the line for in Iraq. He has earned the right to rant.

I'm all for peaceful protests, but when they fail we should not be afraid to turn up the heat a bit.

Somebody give this man some pussy.... he's earned it.

I can and will compare the two. Both individuals were trying to defend someone. Both were yelling and made spectacles of themselves. Both were ineffective. I applaud the fact that they wanted to defend or stop inappropriate behavior, but the method was flawed.

As for the woman at Donald's, did you stop for a minute and put yourself in that situation? You're eating a meal in the restaurant when you hear a commotion break out at the counter. It takes a few minutes to register what's going on. By the time you understand what's going on, the woman is over the counter and getting beat to a pulp by the employee. I have to give her some credit for even getting involved - no one else did including all the guys standing at the counter who could have easily taken the other woman down before things turned nasty.

I can't find fault with the guy being angry at the way people were being treated or his desire to stand up in defense of them. But there is a difference between calling attention to yourself in a good and positive way, and making a spectacle of yourself.

Oh, please. Are you really gonna play the race card here? I don't care what color/gender you are, if you are foaming at the mouth you look like an idiot. My opinion would be the same if the individual was black/white, man/woman, old/young.

Again I challenge you to show me a protest where people don't make a spectacle of themselves. That's how you draw attention to the problem. The woman in McDonalds was shocked and hysterical you know how she could of helped? Get on a fricking phone and call 911. And that dude was very affective as seen by all the people congratulating him for speaking up when he did.

Maybe she did before she approached the counter, but we will never know since the clip didn't show it.

To each his own. You asked the ladies if we would swoon and I said I would not and why.

kind of like here on the forum...everyone is suspect to the mods until they prove themselves not to be...people get followed around from thread to thread...

there is good and bad in nearly every organization...you profile them the same way they profile you...they see a black man...you see a man in uniform...perhaps the uneasy feeling is on both sides...

Well didn't you know if you have a gripe you should write a nice peaceful letter and hope the right people do the right thing? All these bozos saying he could have handled it in a better way certainly don't pay attention to how the little guy has always gotten things done. They have to be loud and public otherwise the opposition would crush them

I never said if, I said you should and as Jaisee pointed out he's definitely earned it. Men like him are the only way anything ever gets done. Men like MLK and Obama make great speeches and motivate people but its dudes like the one in the video who truly inspire us. To show bravery like that is inspiring. Like I said earlier you might not understand that because you're not a bm but since childhood I've always be warned of and witnessed unwarranted aggression by the police. Its not in every single encounter they have with bm but its enough to make me wary of them.

What, actually, did he get done with his rant? So a few people congratulated him. Did he change the situation he was raging about?

Put it like this he definitely brought more attention to the situation than many were aware of. Sometimes that's a great start. You don't always need a bath tub full of water to drown a man sometimes a cupful is all you need.

Check the title of your thread again, DK.

If this guy 's behavior is inspiring for you, that's your opinion and I won't criticize you for that. I have no argument for his motivation, only his method. Even if he had said more, had a little more content in his "speech" and didn't just keep repeating the same thing, at an increasing volume, I would have been more impressed. When people start yelling, I tend to tune out what they're saying because now they've simply become annoying and/or amusing.

Ok, now this I agree with. Well stated, DK. I still won't be swooning over him any time soon. I'll leave that to you. :p

I did check out the title and I used IF as a suggestion not a question.

Well then I guess we have two very different opinions on annoying and amusing. I saw passion and bravery but whatevs

my old bf is a chicago police officer...he has worked on the force for 10+ years...he is an educated bm...you all suggest that all cops are bad and all cops are white...did it ever occur to you that they are just doing their job...trust me he has earned his position as well...i don't want to take anything away from our troops...but all they have to do is sign up...many do so because of family legacy or no other options in todays economy

a peaceful protest does not mean that you have to make an ass out of yourself...my perception of the video is a puffed up black man tooting his own horn...look at what i did...pay attention to me...he isn't on duty so why the hell is he wearing his uniform jacket unless it is to bring attention to himself...it is unfortunate but many of these men that come home after fighting in a war hang on to attention seeking because they are lost and not sure what to do next...
