Dude the problem is many of them are defensive about US. I don't know how you were raised but my mother would and has cursed out anyone who said a negative thing about me my brothers or my uncle. Same thing with my sister my aunts and my grandmother especially. There are a lot of women just not black who say men aren't shit. I know that a lot of bw make it specific to bm but the vast majority are on our side. They raised us educated us and stood by us our entire lives and I am truly sorry for you if you don't see that.

 

I think you may be right - single mothers in general tend to have tighter bonds with their kids. In part because you're right - we'll do anything for our kids. I spent twenty years working at a job I hated which stole my life so my son could choose to do whatever the hell he wanted with his without having to pick because the job "paid best" like I did. Like your mom, I did what I had to do to make sure he didn't ever end up in the same position I was, where I followed a career path that filled me with stress just for the money.

And it's the other side of it to, DK - you *know* what your mom gave up for you, and you appreciate it. My son as he's matured has developed a streak of almost protectiveness toward me - recently he took on a situation he knew was stressing me out and just told me it was his job to handle it, that I'd done enough. I was not only relieved - I was proud as fuck.

Fathers are important too. I don't get along with my dad in the slightest but the man took care of home. Bills always paid, Christmas and birthday gifts every year, and he was the dude that made sure all the monsters weren't in my closet or under my bed. Just didn't have that bond I have with my mom.
