Yeah that must be it. Couldn't be cause I have an open mind and don't lump everyone into convenient categories such as all cops are corrupt or all bm are crooks or all women are flighty and helpless. If you think that I've never experienced racism, sexism, or other forms of abuse and that I am a sheltered little Becky, you're fucking delusional.
Not at all but its something I understand that you CAN'T understand because you aren't the target of harassment. I'm not saying all cops are bad or even most. Like I said earlier I think most cops are indifferent just like any other wage worker over time (capitalism at its best) but my issue is that while being the second biggest minority and counting for almost 13% of the country we seem to get fucked with the most. It skews your perception when you see people who look like you getting beaten more frequently than everybody else, getting killed by cops more than everyone else, going to jail for longer the same crime than everyone else or even worst dying for said crime when you didn't do it. You start to see the cops as entity to hurt you not to help you. When you read countless studies about police being trained to target and harass bm, when you see the crooked behavior go on without punishment how do you expect someone to ignore that. Especially when you're the target of their shitty behavior?
I don't think that gives you the right to call her a pig. Totally derogatory. If you disgree with her philosophy or you think she's being insensitive then take her to task in a mature way without name-calling.
Personally I don't blame white women who are out of touch about this. They have no idea the depths to which these things are experienced. While I'm a black man that dresses presentable, always keep my appearance on point. I am not naive that I can still face the same fate as any other black man around me that has been stopped, frisked and viewed negatively. The scary thing is the notion that drugs were being planted on innocent people. I mean that is beyond fucked up. When you are a black man, you go to court and a cop is saying he found drugs on you, fully well knowing he planted it, how do you fight against that. Who will believe you when you state your version of events. They will just look at you as another lowlife, no good thug, up to criminal behavior. If I was one of those black men that had drugs planted on him and harassed by cops it would leave me bitter as fuck about the police. Why would they be trusted after doing something like that.
Shit if they're going to lay their asses down with us AL LEAST they can try to understand the crap we go thru. As if we make this shit up.
No one doubts you have an open mind Athena. You had better believe though that unlike you there are people out there who don't have open minds, will lump everyone into convenient categories and have no problems about doing it. Unlike being a white female, you can be the most presentable, respectable, well mannered black man out and about, but if you come across the wrong, bigoted individual none of that matters, all they will see is skin color and formulate their actions towards you based on that. This is why I stated I have never had any issues with the cops, I have been stopped on the interstate coming down from college and searched by state troopers, but that was about the extent of it. However while my case is limited to that, there are others who have had awful experiences. How for example do you explain that cop on Staten Island throwing an innocent black man into a holding cell for 36 hours, after stopping him, to frisk him, then telling his friends he had fried another n***** As we all know the real world is not a cut and dry place.
White people just don't know what it's like to have ZERO credibility. A BM's word ain't shit in America.
LOL, I think some do, but their experiences are often so different on these issues. What I do hope they comprehend is you don't have to be "Pookey" hanging around the corner store, with your pants falling off your ass for the cops to fuck with you. You can be the most refined, well spoken, intelligent black male and if you are with a white woman, even more reason for some bigot with a badge to harass you and remind you that you are a "boy"
I understand what you're saying, but is it wise to lump all police officers together, to generalize because of the behavior of some? That would be like me saying that all BM are thugs or criminals because I or someone I know had a bad experience with one BM. I do know several black men who were unfairly treated by the police. One was picked up walking to meet his ride to work when he found himself surrounded by cops. A cnvenience store had been robbed just up the street. Fortunately, the employee had given cops a good id and began laughing incredulously when asked to identify him. He nowhere matched the description of the thief & she said so. He is, understandably, wary of the police now. But he also knows several cops personally and doesn't lump them all together.
Therein lies the crux of the matter. Say a cop stopped me, planted drugs on me and arrested me. I show up in court what do you think they will see. Bleh, another lowlife, black thug, up to no good in our society. Throw him in jail for 10 years, who cares, 1 less of them on the street. You have NYPD officers saying they did this to people they stopped. I mean that is fucking nuts. You can't trust the cops, who can you trust when it comes to law and order.
The cops love pookey...he adds to their stereotype. What threatens them are the Brothers that crush those stereotypes...that's why we hear about the lazy Brother because the hardworking Brother SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF THEM. It's not our darkness they fear and hate....it's our LIGHT..:smt039
The difference is the cops are sworn to serve and protect innocent people, not make criminals out of those who aren't. Black men aren't sworn to X,Y,Z in regards to how they behave in society, some are good, some are bad. Cops have an oath to uphold. I personally have no beef with law enforcement, but I am also not naive to think there aren't some people sitting in prison now who have no business being there, but for the fact they were railroaded. As flaming mentioned above it comes back to credibility, the police are going to be believed every time over a black man who is brought into court, no matter the circumstances. One rotten cop is one too many, also remember these issues have been a part of the black community for generations, so therein lies the other problem, people are naturally suspect because of that history of betrayal.
As I've said previously I know plenty of decent cops but what destroys their credibility is the down right crooked ones do their dirt and are never called out by the good ones. They only run into trouble when private citizens and the media catch them. There are cops who get away with being criminals themselves while others look the other way because that blue line ain't no joke. So while most of them are probably decent people my natural inclination is to wary of them. The same way I view doctors and politicians and other people who are afforded the public trust and shit on the people. Like I said you personally never have to worry about it so can't fathom the mistrust.
By the same token, if you're gonna lay your a$$ with us, understand that we haven't endured the persecution that BM have suffered and we often DO NOT KNOW the extent of it. I have heard plenty, but hearing about it and experiencing it or being personally attached to someone who has experienced it is altogether different. We may seem ignorant because we haven't been exposed to it. Have a little understanding for us too, please. Do you honestly think the majority of the female posters on here are insensitive and dismissive of this?
