They do that to a lot of shows like Stargate Universe(best series of the SG universe in my opinion) only got two seasons. Kyle XY 3 seasons. Could have went much longer. Flash Forward was a great concept and got canceled after one season yet they kept V? The new Bionic woman was decent too but I think Isiah Washington(Burke from Grey's Anatomy) killed that. Legend of the Seeker only got two seasons and that show grabbed the audience left in the void after Hercules and Xena got cancelled. Its a damn shame.
I actually understood why they cut Sarah Conner. It was too expensive for those special effects but Flash Forward could have been their next lost. Makes no sense.
Just my take but Stargate Universe got canceled due to money and budget. The Sci-Fi network would rather produce & pump out cheap EFX ridden straight to DVD crap to make money rather put in the money for a high concept and quality show like Stargate Universe. Legend of the Seeker was running on syndicated channels and syndicated channels right now are living up to their name at least up here and playing a lot of no longer on the air TV shows Like Seinfeld and Friends so it was a losing game for that show because it's not about ratings on those channels. Now that would be a show that the Sci-Fi channel could produce and run that had of a low budget, but was still good quality if they were smart.
Good points about Sylar. I use to post on the Heroes forum and, there were a lot of Sylar fans. I think another problem is they relied too much on fan input. I watched the whole Firefly series on Netflix along with the movie Serenity. I loved that show.
In my opinion, the issue with shows like Heroes, Stargate Universe, and Flash Forward. Is that the show runners spent the bulk of their creative energy thinking of the cool idea for the show, yet they spent little time putting a long term story structure in place. They (Show Runners) usually just pulled stories out of nowhere as they went along, with no regards for the overall concept. TV writers need to pitch shows like Comic book writers do. They should have the first dozen episodes planned out before day one, and they should have the entire series outlined in a unified story arc, with room to make change if need be. That way the show feels cohesive. One more thought on Heroes. That show should have gone full superhero. By that I mean, the show should have been an origin story for the birth of a superhero universe, kind of like the way Smallvilles original concept was.
Heroes suffered for two big reasons to me. One the focused far too much attention on the Patreli family drama. At point you just didn't care anymore about Claire's issues with her dad. 2. The worst thing any universe with super powers can do is make a hero or a a villian who is all powerful and they did that bs with Sylar and Peter. Peter's fear of@ Sylar never made sense since to me he was the more powerful of the two since all he had to was be around someone while they used their power to get it. The idea of letting him have only one power out of time was a good idea but too little too late and also to anti climatic. The show had so much promise and they fucked it up.
