Hispanics fuel US white population growth

I watched this entire series. Learning the history and culture was fascinating but Henry Louis Gates was very biased. He was set on implying the old one drop rule in countries that never had such a thing and hand their own sets of racial problems that were different than the US b/c the fact no such thing ever existed there but a different kind of system did.

Actually, Puerto Ricans are 60% African. Look it up.

 

You get to meet interesting people but sometimes it straight scary. Going out in the woods to folks houses. Some people were threatened. I was accused of one crazy dude of being apart of some organization. He didn't believe I was a census taker. Crazyyyy like I was out to get him or something. One house I went to I was terrified. Folks looked like they'd hurt somebody and had this huge confederate flag hanging across their barn in their back yard. Then as I went through the questions when I got to race dude said well we ain't n__. I guess he thought I was going to laugh but I was not amused. I hurried my ass up out of there. Told the girl at work I understood why she didn't want to be out in them parts and I'm glad I took them houses and not her cause it's scary to think how they might have reacted to a bw coming to their house out in freaking no where's ville. But over all I enjoyed meeting people although it was kind of embarrassing when this one dude seen my at my childs assembly says "there's the census taker".

I disagree - the "problem" with the Irish related to Catholicism. When the Irish came here, it had long been a primarily Protestant nation, and the insults directed at the Irish had to do with being "popish" as well as the typical drunk/dirty stuff aimed at anyone different. It was also true of the Italians - again, Catholics though combined with Mediterranean coloring if they were from the north. Jewish people had long been outcasts due to their ethnicity, and their religion.

 

The MAJORITY of PRs have African ancestry, that's why MOST of them look like light skinned Black people. Go to PR, the majority population is dark skinned, not light.

Puerto RIco was a slave trade port of call like the entire Caribbean was.

Latinos/Hispanics have an inferiority problem about their identity, and in many ways are the most racist against themselves.

A white hispanic to me is someone who has to tell other people they're hispanic or of Latin descent, not someone who simply has fair Skin.
Jennifer Lopez is light, but she isn't 'White'. Neither is Eva Longoria or Eva Mendes.

White hispanic IMO is like when you meet someone from Spain, or Argentina to a lesser extent and you're vaguely shocked when they open their mouths and run off at the mouth in Spanish.

Ultimately labeling themselves as 'White' on a U.S. Census form will hurt the Hispanic population since so many federal programs are funded based on how many people are represented in a particular group.

When they apply to college or apply for Federal business loans, I guarantee you all those 'White hispanics' drop the White part.

I'm envisioning them filling out the Census, sitting there and thinking about it and saying... nah, my skin is white. "Mark me down as white". "I don't even speak Spanish."

 

You'd be shocked to know how many people who identified as White, suddenly became Black on paper....professionally.

 

Everyone should just claim white for shits and giggles on the next Census.
