Idris Elba As James Bond?

I don't mind if a black british actor was casted for the role of James Bond(Probably because I am not a die hard Bond fan). I think it would a really progressive thing if they did that. If it does happen then I doubt Idris would be given the role because by the time Daniel Craig is done with the role, Idris would probably be a little old for the part.

BBW, does have a point. Will it be well recieved by the fans, especially here in the states? Honestly, I don't know. Given the bigotry in this country, I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't.

 

Well, as everyone is aware, I love Idris and would watch him in anything. However, I don't want him to be James Bond. I'm not a huge fan of the Bond movies, but I just think making Bond black changes the character completely and it's not Bond anymore.
Now if we're talking a new spy franchise with Idris, or another bm actor in the lead then I'm all for it. But as for James Bond...it's true that the 007 could be used for anyone, but the actual name? I don't think so. It's hard enough seeing a new white actor in the role.

Unlike most on here I am a Bond fan (the movies and books), as a Black man it would not bother me 'racially' obviously. However, I agree with Sin Mari it would change the character.

If you ever read the novels you will see that Bond has some serious flaws that not only contradict being a Black man but, some of those traits make being a Black man impossible.

Bond btw is huge in India, Latin America and Asia and I am not sure that a BM Bond would be embraced in those markets.

 

I agree, I would rather him play in a new spy movie and, not the Bond series.

 

I say do a version like JB but dont do a black james bond. But since they are doing a British TV version then it maybe ok. I would rather do a black agent type movie instead.

shaft was the shit BUT it was considered by the black critics as blaxploitation. I personally wouldnt call it blaxploitation BUT I would call superfly and the mack as one.
