i agree with her. a written transcript is different to a recording. someone reading an article won't get the same sense of it asif you are listening to the speech.....the written page can't accurately depict the context so the editor should have done his job and cleaned it up.....

Have you ever read a book?

"Take off your bedroom slippers. Put on your marching shoes," he said, his voice rising as applause and cheers mounted. "Shake it off. Stop complainin'. Stop grumblin'. Stop cryin'. We are going to press on. We have work to do."

You cannot elicit a visual or mental imagery of what occurred at the Black Caucus speech? I got the sense exactly as the President intended and as the reporter conveyed.

Let's see him stand before a group of whites and tell them to take off their bedroom slippers and stop complaining.

They'd rightfully blow the ears off that crackhead.

My goodness - it's "half" of a metaphor. You cannot disregard the "put on your marching shoes" that followed it. C'mon now. Ok, how about "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" Is that better? :smt056

Rep. Waters Fires Back At Obama: Tell Him “We’re Not Complaining”

    http://newsone.com/nation/newsonestaff2/maxine-waters-obama/

“He would never talk to the gay, lesbian, or Latino communities in that manner,” said Waters. “I’m really kind of confused as to who he’s speaking to.”

I’m not sure who the president was addressing. I found that language a bit curious,” Waters said today. “The president spoke to the Hispanic Caucus… he certainly didn’t tell them to stop complaining and he never would say that to the gay and lesbian community who really pushed him on don’t ask don’t tell or even in a speech to APEC, he would never say to the Jewish community stop complaining about Israel.”

She needs to check her facts....
Could you imagine if a White President told a room full of Black progressives "just be patient". Or his views towards their issues are currently "evolving".

And the Jewish community wouldn't be told to strap their shoes on and go forth!- hell they own most of America, lol.

I mean, is this a forest from the trees situation here? Am I one of the few who sees what Obama did was intended as a motivation to light the fire under their feet, or help garner one in their belly, so to speak? (and yes flaming that is also a metaphor as you know!)

:smt077 not touching that one, love

There is always subtext and multiple angles to everything he says or does, whether it's intentionally from Obama, or a creation of the media. Waters still said she and the CBC support Obama at the end of the interview in which one of these quotes was taking from.

Obama codeswitching and trotting Michelle around is good enough for Negros, who unlike Jews or Gays, don't have a comparable cohesive platform issue to press him with.

with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one....

NEGROS love that shit! As evidenced below, Obama putting on his best Black voice talking about back to the day of Black communal parenting. The inauthenticity couldn't be anymore self evident...

The problem with you old folks these days is you think we have no bills to pay no mouthes to feed.

I am here paying my bills and parts of my parent's and I got some guy trying to tell me I am "looking out for myself".

If we had responsibility in this current generation in charge, we wouldn't be here in such debt and high unemployment. You ought to be looking at yourselves instead of blaming everyone else.

That "young fellas" thing did come across a bit condescending.

and his comment about having nothing to walk for because he had a job (who cares about everyone else that's unemployed), came across a bit ignorant
