so the lesson to be learned is marry dumb if you want a family! If the marriage fails and you have kids then marry smart! sounds like a plan.

Whatever. I didn't go to college to meet non-black women, but it's been a fairly positive side effect.

What I found is that in my personal experience I am always willing to learn about the cultures and customs of others.

Its something that I am very inquisitive and fascinated by that it lends to an eclectic personality in my makeup.

I never limit myself in those areas.

Take just one example my taste in music, it can run from Deep Chillout/Lounge to RnB to Sigur Ros, even a dash of Metallica and Sepultura thrown in and consider I grew up the first 12 years of my life listening to various sub-genres of Reggae.

If I like the rhythm I'll enjoy it.

I definitely think higher levels of education plays a role in expanding your horizons beyond a narrow scope of social interactions one would normally have.

I'm unedumacated and haven't lived anywhere with a popluation over 10,000 and the white population being about 90% and the black population never being over 1%, yet I've been with a BM for 12 years, so how do you like them apples? :smt104

LOL, the only absolute in life is death :D

I don't think its a hard and fast rule. Its not only the education but the willingness to explore the wider world around us, being open minded and never locking yourself into a box or feeling you have to conform, but instead going after what you like, whatever that may be.

A white woman in your case from a small town, entirely white population growing up, would ordinarily gravitate to what is in their comfort zone, you stepped out of it. The beauty of life is there are always going to be exceptions no matter the scenario.

I don't think anyone said it doesn't happen at all absent an education it just increases your chances a lot. At college people have the opportunity to get know each other without all the stereotypical bs. In undergrad I went to a liberal arts college with a huge homosexual population. That experience helped me get past all the stereotypes I grew up with at home(Christian Caribbean parents). I think college helps a lot of people see that all black kids aren't thugs getting by on affirmative action and it helps a lot of black kids see with their own eyes that not all whites are racists or that ww are basically all jumpoffs.

    Excellent points you highlighted bro.

You are more likely to be exposed to other experiences and people that expand your consciousness about the wider world out there.

Instead of relying on simplistic, banal stereotypes about others.

Exactly. I guess you could get the same experience world traveling but unfortunately most don't have the funds to do that but that shit looks like its gonna get cheaper if oil keeps dropping.

This is off topic a little but you're one of the few New Yorkers on here besides me. Have you heard anything about that protest on Wall St? I find it a little eerie that there isn't even a buzz in the streets about it.

Not a word bro. Only remembered hearing something flash by in the local news about emails being blocked that were sent to some Wall Street types or something to that effect, but nothing in regards to a vocal protest on Wall Street itself.

    Pretty self explanatory...

    :)

although u do have intelligent racists, academic environments generally foster exchanges with other people. You start to realize that there are bright black people and friendly white people, among others, shattering those myths that bigoted family and friends out out

I didn't read all the replies, or for that matter the article. Common sense however dictates that education, (be it formal or informal) genrally means that people are open to new ideas, and relaize that race in merely a man made constraint designed by old white men in authority who want to hold onto their power.
