I feel sick. God rest his soul. We tried. Was he ever granted his request for the polygraph test?????
A polygraph test wouldn't be sufficient since it's shown that it's flawed. A DNA test would have made it easier on his part. But, now he's dead and gone.
And earlier this summer on NPR there was a long debate about new data acknowledging the bias inherent in "eyewitness" accounts and testimony, whether due to racial animus or just plain old bad memory.
there is some delay, as there would have been some death announcement by now. i quoted the atlanta journal constitution about the supreme court rejected his plea, but they took it down so that could be wrong info. i dont think anything either way has happened yet.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/troy-davis-execution-delayed-supreme-court-decision/story?id=14571862 Here's what I got from ABC news, which indicates in the script that it is a "delay"... At 7:05 p.m. tonight, five minutes after his scheduled death, Davis' supporters erupted in cheers, hugs and tears outside the jail in Jackson, Ga., as supporters believed Davis had been saved from the death penalty. But the Supreme Court only granted a temporary reprieve as it considers the decision. The Supreme Court could decide at any time tonight or in the next seven days whether to go through with his execution.
Absolutely. There have been numerous tests done on the accuracy of what we eyewitness. I will say I do good in the tests because I'm very observant, but I never completely pass them..so flaws are ever-present. Not to mention how fast crimes occur and our shocked brains might have to catch up to what we are witnessing. This is why surveillance cameras are awesome to capture crimes. Also, I'd trust eyewitnesses if the person knows the person, such as a child watching a parent kill the other, etc..Even rape victims sometimes get it wrong. Thank God for DNA. Today's technologies > than eyewitness.
Troy Davis Execution Delayed; Waiting for Supreme Court Decision Good God Almighty. Let's hope & pray the US Supreme Court stays this execution. Troy Davis should receive clemency from the Supreme Court. Let's all pray. http://abcnews.go.com/US/troy-davis-execution-delayed-supreme-court-decision/story?id=14571862 The Kid Rasta
If they grant him a stay of execution, surely they will reconsider whether he deserves life in prison??? Is that too much to hope for? I mean, he has already spent 18 years in prison - if there is no real evidence, and no credible witnesses shouldn't they let him go free?
I still haven't heard if he was "there" or not and this is a case of true mistaken identity, or if he is claiming he was here but another man fired the shot. How did the police have his mug-shot to begin with? Also, what of the 2 witness who have NOT changed or recanted their story? In a normal scenario, isn't two enough for crime eyewitness?
Holy shit Rasta, don't you know how to merge/continue/update a thread? There's like 4 of them and you started all of them on the same topic/man.
Update - I was just hearing that normally it takes minutes for the Supreme court to decide ya or nay. It's been an unprecedented 3 hours. - There are 9 judges, and he needs 5 to overturn it. Very very unlikely to get five to all agree. Wow. - They are speculating the delay is because one judge must be writing a long dissident. - Over 100 riot police have just turned up to the prison.
My 2 friends posted this elsewhere... "the gun linked to the shooting death was tied to Davis through a separate robbery conviction." "Except the problem here is that in all likelihood Troy Davis isn't the 'cop killer' and Sylvester Coles is... "
Troy Davis was put to death this evening. He died at 11:08pm. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44592285/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/#.Tnq6h9Tfeso
