Landau Eugene Murphy walked on stage during his first performance chewing gum. He was an unassuming Black guy with dreadlocks who told the judges that he works as a car washer. Pierce Morgan the head judge asked him to remove his gum, which Landau did, he put the gum in his pocket. None of the judges took him seriously, and then he began to sing. This Black man, without formal musical training, then belted out a Frank Sinatra standard that left the judges with their mouths open. Throughout the rounds he grew more and more confident and continued crooning the standards of old, and America was impressed. He chose to sing Frank Sinatra's greatest hit, I did it my way, as his last number of the competition. It proved to be enough, and now he's the latest winner of the competition, for which he will receive $1,000,000 and a headline show in Vegas. He proved that if you have a dream, you can make it happen, if you are true to your talents and you have the will to succeed. even when the odds are against you. Well done, Landau..
had to track it down. bless his cotton socks. what an amazing voice...i was completely shocked
He was the only one, imo, that deserved to win. Sure, lots of other talents, but a LV show?? Nah - Landau was the only one. Someone like him don't come along every day. What a voice. On a side-note - I saw an interview w him where the interviewer asked him about his struggles and overcoming drug addiction - Landau looked at him and said "what addiction????". I felt uncomfortable just watching it - where did the interviewer get that erroneous "fact", just because he is black and have dreads and work in a car wash???? It was just wrong
Don't you love that horseshit. Damn. If you find out what program that is please tell me so I can boycott them
I don't recall, it was in the late morning.. I think it was the access hollywood dude (googled it: Billy Bush) - but I don't know if it was that program. He took it well though, I would not have been as gracious as Landau was.
It was Access Hollywood Live. I saw the interview too. He did take it pretty well. I didn't think much of it. I still don't. If I was Landau, I would've handled it the same way too. I don't really blame Billy Bush. That was probably the information the producers gave him. As to why the producers would think that? Maybe it was because he was black(probably most likely)or it may be something else, like some kind of miscommunication or something.
Of course it came from the producers, I don't blame Billy, he looked as confused as Landau did and made a comment about that. However, it was embarrassing as hell and I found it very inappropriate. Makes you wonder why they would think he had a drug problem.........
Wouldn't it be a real hoot if we found out that there was a mix-up, that the real drug addict was a White guy with the same name. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, lol.
i watched the show & his performances were amazing; he seems like a very humble & all-around nice guy
