Tosh is racist, because he does what a lot of racist people do. He surrounds his racism with comedy and self deprecation to take the "sting" out of what ever racist thing he is saying.

A lot of liberal types say we live in a post-racial America, well it don't seem like it to me.

You need to be more specific IMO if you're gonna call TOsh.O a racist.
    How?? Why?? When??

Or is it 'racist' to point out the absurdity of people on the interwebz who happen to be Black??
In my experience many Black folk can't stand to be portrayed in a less than flattering light, even if it's by a comedian.

Check out the Afro Ninja clip on youtube. FAIL.
Tosh brought this guy on for a web redemption to get that stunt done right so Black man didn't look like a fool for all eternity.

Tosh can be edgy but he's not a closet White supremacist.

WHen I was growing up, my mom made a point to NEVER describe anyone by their skin color. It was always, 'remember that woman we met yesterday with the grey sandals and the white wire rim glasses?', or ' the man over there with the brown mustache wearing the light blue suit..',etc.

When I was a teen, she switched it up!!lol:rolleyes:

But she explained the reason why she used to do that when I was little is because she never wanted me to make negative or positive associations to other people based on their race or ethnicity.

Point being, most people are taught to be racist, at home and by the dominant culture. Still overall most people are publicly more tolerant than they were 30+ years ago.

I would argue that nearly EVERY White person I knew socially or through their families was cool. Later on my mom explained that wasn't by 'accident'.
Her quote used to be, 'I wasn't about to introduce my baby to some crazy white people!'lol.

If someone is a bigot, you won't have to try to decipher their intent. It will be quite obvious IMO.

I don't have any specific things in mind because I stopped watching his show a while back. Tosh Is just an example. But What he represents is the "ha ha they're funny because they're different" type racism. When someone like Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock use Black stereotypes as a punchline, Its palatable because they are Black themselves and even though they are richer than most of us, they still walk through this world with Black skin. You can tease and push around your little brother, because your family, but if someone else does it, you'll try to kick their ass.

Tosh is a observational comedian. Like most comedy, observational comedy has a kernel of truth to it. And it reinforces things we already think are true.
When he makes a Black people are lousy tippers joke. His audience laughs because they think it's true.

Tosh's isn't making jokes in a "we're all family so it's ok" sort of way. He instead is making jokes that appeal to the new Hipster Racists, the White people who feel semi-victimized by the encroachment of minorities into mainstream America.

Now if you think I'm just to sensitive, well, fair enough I might be. However, their are other comedians like Louis C.K. who uses racial terms but doesn't do it in a "I'm laughing at you" sort of way.

I take back what I said in defense of Tosh.O after watching a few more episodes. I'm not sure about the guy, he seems to clown on Black folk a LOT on his show and it can become annoying.
I understand how if you were a hipster with racist inclinations, you would go about it the way Tosh does...kinda subtle and wrapped in humor.

But dude IS still funny....when he makes fun of OTHER people!!:smt109

Sometimes the words by those people is like a silent pimp slap without you being aware of it.
