    Heartbreaking.

I saw this yesterday, and while I'm not a dog person, it really moistened my eyes. Poor dog. :-(

And that's why dogs are far better than cats.

Pfft. Personal choice. My last kitty was that loyal to me. When I had surgery, he stayed beside me for four months of recovery, carefully never stepping on my leg, and only leaving to eat and use his litter box.

When I'd travel for business, or when I was in the hospital, according to my son who thinks I tend to anthropomorphise animals far too much, kitty "moped."

It depends on the animal and their connection to their owner, not the species, IMNSHO

Just another reason why dogs are the most amazing animals on the planet.

Treepixie, for crying out loud, don't turn this wonderful thread into a dog/cat debate. Just let it be and allow us to be so bold as to claim dogs are the greatest.

    Anyhoo...

Poor dog, it must be really feeling the loss. Poor family too.:(

LOL! Like I said, personal choice and the interaction between pet and owner. I have a friend who has parrots, and she feels like that about them.

Anyhoo...yeah, I really feel for the dog. At least the family understands what's going on, but the poor pup is just missing his person. :-(

Not to take away from this story but I have a similar one.

When I was a police officer I had a canine partner for 4 years. He was my best friend and my life line/ back up. He lived with me but in a kennel outside so we would not cross the line of "boss"

I was seriously injured at work and my dog was stuck in the jeep and unable to help me. I could here him wailing as the shit was going on and there was nothing either of us I could do.

I ended up in the hospital in very bad condition where it was touch and go for a while. It got to the point where the doctors said "She has given up and does not want to fight, there is nothing left for us to do she needs to do it"

Meanwhile....my dog was locked in a cage going mental and they were going to put him down as you cannot change handlers. He would not eat or drink and was very aggressive even with people in my unit.

Back to the hospital....my father the legend said"She needs her dog" They dressed one of the dog guys up in a bite suit and got my dog in the jeep and into the hospital.

As soon as he walked in the room he ran to the bed and very gently put his paws on the bed and had a look at me. He licked me, got down and assumed the position at the door as my guardian as he had always been.

Two days later I woke up and he was there to greet me with a wagging tail and a kiss.

I know it sounds like a Hallmark story, but it true. I needed him and he needed me. He lived out his retirement on my couch and lake house!

    Dogs Rock!

That's a great story, Ms. Chai. I'm glad your dad was so observant, and that you and your canine partner got to spend some happy time together once he retired.

It’s uncanny how dogs seem to sense when their owners are sick or have passed away & go into mourning just like ppl.

Such a touching, beautiful, heartfelt story. Brought tears to my eyes. Your partner needed to be there for you. It's in his DNA.

So true Kunoichi! I had him cremated when he passed and I still have him with me. I sprinkled little bits here and there but I have the bulk.

Try explaining that in an airport! You will find when you tell most people "It is my dog" they smile and say Carry on with a knowing smile!

He goes with me where ever I live. Some people may think that is odd but he saved my life on more than one occasion. Angel he was and is xo

I find it incredible that despite death snatching away the Seal's life...the passage of time while away on assignment...and amidst the strange and unfamiliar environment of a funeral....his dog knew his master lay in that pine box.

I totally get it. Totally. My 2 "babies' are cremated also and are close to me always. Words can't describe the bond between a dog and its master...it just is, you know. I feel so blessed to get a chance to experience it daily. :smt053
