Why not? They were an extraordinary group of brothers who deserve to have their story publicized. The last one was just some low budget TV movie that was produced by HBO. Damn straight. They can make they umpteenth movie about events that happened during the Holocaust or were related to it in some tangential way, but if you put out a movie that's related to black oppression (from the POV of black people), then motherfuckers start complaining about dredging up a "stale" topic.
10 mil, impossible bro with Luca's team behind the SFX. I read the budget is between 25-35 million. lol @ Schinderlist's list being classified as a war movie. lol What was the last "black gangsta" movie that has done well at the box office? Miracle at St. Anna was meh at best.... I had high hopes for that movie, maybe far to high. That's wasup.
Hmm.. It's actually one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a classic IMO. Pretty much all of Spike's stuff is classic.
But guess what? Movies inspire people and someone spent a lot of money to re-shoot a part of your history so people do not forget. If one Black or white kid or adult watches this movie and it changes their life its done its job. Can you imagine if the producers of Slumdog Millionaire said...hey white people are not going to wanna see an Indian film it would have never came to light. The movie Glory was an EXCELLENT movie as well. I cant believe you think that way.
Hell no! Spike has made some pretty awful movies. He's either a hit or a miss. All I did was assume that Red Tails will be a box office flop... I would love for Red Tails to be a box office success because hopefully bring more leway for black actors to play more diverse roles and genre's in future films. Recent aviation films budgets and US box office gross Flyboys budget: 60 million US box office: 13 million Stealth budget: 135 million US box office: 32 million Amelia budget: 40 million US box office: 14 million The Aviator budget: 110 million US box office: 102 million Flight of the Phoenix budget: 45 million US box office: 21 million I'll find recent war movie budgets and grosses later
WTF? Whose fault is that? Anyway black people have always spent on movie tickets above their representation in the population. Don't think that has changed. Regardless the only thing you should worry about is whether you will buy a ticket when the movie comes out (don't go that black market route).
Actually it was $30 million. http://www.ceskapozice.cz/en/news/society/time-finally-right-lucasfilm’s-‘red-tails’
I understand what you mean... But when they were developing the Cosby show NBC thought it would flop they probably thought the same with the Jeffersons and every other black show. Because black shows were 'risky' So thats a risky mentality to have..
Your now acting as if I said the movie should not of have been made because of it's major potential of floppage.
LOL when you call something a failure..maybe Aviator made $213,741,459 world wide and was an excellent movie Stealth was just a horrible movie. I saw Amelia as well and the movie was just boring and written poorly Flight of the Phoenix is not a war movie and was a remake. It was remade poorly. There are a lot of movies that are war movies that made a lot...but movies that gross hugh numbers will almost all ways be family movies because kids out number adults
George Lucas Is Betting $93 Million of His Own Money on ‘Red Tails.’ Will the Force Be With Him? George Lucas is betting $93 million of his own money that his new movie “Red Tails” will be a hit. The creator of “Star Wars” reached into his own deep pockets to bankroll the new action movie about African-American pilots in World War II, spending $58 million to make it and $35 million more to distribute the film. Lucas serves as executive producer of “Red Tails.” Will the force be with “Red Tails”? Even for someone as rich as Lucas, $93 million is a huge wager to place on a single film. “Red Tails” is set for release on Jan. 20, and so unless it schedules some advance official screenings, it will miss much of the lucrative holiday filmgoing season, and it also won’t be eligible for Oscar consideration. Lucas has a long track record of blockbuster success that includes the “Star Wars” franchise, the Indiana Jones movies, and “American Graffiti.” People who worked on “Red Tails” say the action sequences evoke “Star Wars”–an association that can only help the movie’s box office prospects. Through a spokesperson, Lucas said he was drawn to the subject because he wanted to make an action film about young men who were thrust into an incredible situation and, against the odds, proved to be great pilots as well as heroes. Anthony Hemingway, Lucas’s handpicked director for “Red Tails,” says the film’s Jan. 20 release date could help bring in viewers looking to do something cultural around the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Hemingway also says that the film’s development went around the typical way movies are produced. “This isn’t about Hollywood,” Hemingway says. ‘This is an independent film.” http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011...l-the-force-be-with-him/?mod=google_news_blog
Hopefully I'll be eating crow this weekend. HOPEFULLY. Movie theater closest to me isn't even showing it. ::::
Damn! The cinema near me is showing all 3 of the flicks I'm seeing tonight. So I'll only move to go buy popcorn! lol
I don't think that's always the case. For me, it depends on the genre and story. I typically don't go to movies of any kind in the theater - it's cheaper to wait for dvd. But if I like the story and there is at least one known actor in it, I would most definitely watch it. But that also goes for movies where the actors are predominantly white. I have to be caught by the story first. Anyone have any stats on how well the movie did opening night? I saw some minor articles and it seemed to do ok.
